Compassionate Visitor: Resources for Ministering to People Who Are Ill

I bought this book because I expected it to help prepare me to make hospital visits as a chaplain for a veterans' organization, and this book did not disappoint. Though it is an introductory level book there is a lot of useful advice in it. There are some good example dialogs in it, as well as some useful "do's and don'ts", especially when it comes to prayer and scripture in hospital visits.I recommend this book to anyone who might be called to make hospital visits as a pastoral/congregational visitor.**Later Edit***The content in this book is excellent; this addition to my review is for the Kindle version. If you want this book, get the hardcopy.This book is not properly formatted for the Kindle, and the text is difficult to read in places. Words are sometimes split, letters are sometimes split, and the font in many places does not render letters as complete letters. Imagine a capital "O" that looks like "()".Amazon customer support advised me to delete the title, restart, and reload the title. This didn't fix the problem, and this is the only book on my Kindle (touch) that has this problem.I've downgraded my rating due to this. I would rate the content higher than three stars.

AWESOME book for starting a Hospital Ministry at your church or even reading to help those already volunteering. I got hooked after the intro, and couldn't put it down. Easy read and so much valuable info in it. This will be our main reading book for our church as we look to start this ministry hopefully in 2007. Right now we're studdying and planning. I'm looking into other books as well. I ordered another one off Amazon and it was filled with charts, hard to read, I sent it back. This book is short and to the point. Very affordable, makes a great book for your hospital ministry team to whip through and not have to pay a fortune.

If you are a professional or serving in a volunteer capacity, you need this book. Very insightful.

This is excellent to prepare someone how to pray for these who are recovery and morning.

I did not like this book as much as I thought I would. I was expecting indepth explanation on death and dying and how to minister to these people.

For those who are developing a Visitation ministry, or building on a pastoral care group, this book is an excellent resource. We are having each memeber of our ministry read the book and then discuss it in group.

Easy reading and gives excellent instructions for making hospital visitations.

Good book.
