Excellent Textbook for Understanding and Treating Children/Students with Language Based Learning Issues
I'm a huge fan of Dr. Rhea Paul and she continues to produce the best textbook for clinicians and language specialists, of all levels, for assessing and treating children of all ages and adolescents with speech language delays/disorders.Speech really means enunciation (more specific than language and this textbook is really for language learning issues) and language development encompasses a broader territory: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The most common type of learning disability is a language based learning disability and many young children with speech delays, are actually language delayed- easily misconstrued. Connecting language delay and later language based learning difficulties is critical, however it doesn't get the attention it deserves. If you are a professional who works with individuals with developmental language difficulties (any age) and would like to keep abreast of the emerging field of language pathology, particularly with its connection to literacy, this textbook is a must for your professional library. Thanks Dr. Paul!-CraigM.S. and Communicating (4th Edition) is an AMAZING book for anyone interested in language disorders
Language Disorders from Infancy through Adolescence: Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Communicating (4th Edition) is an AMAZING book for anyone interested in language disorders, especially those studying speech-language pathology! It is detailed and highly organized, and provides a wealth of current knowledge on the subject of language disorders. This book is an invaluable resource and I would highly recommend it to others! Purchasing it from Amazon was easy and convenient. The price was great, the shipping time quick, and the packaging well suited for protecting my book. It was just the right size and thickness of cardboard to protect my book -- spine, cover, corners and all!

Lots of information
I just finished a class using this text book. I often sell back my books but because this has so much information regarding assessment and intervention I decided it will be a great asset in my budding career. Yes-there is a lot of text and it takes quite a bit of time to get through a chapter, but I found the information in there well worth the read.

Too Big and Too Much
I am disappointed in this text. First, it weighs a ton and is very awkward to hold for any length of time. Second, although Rhea Paul is obviously very knowledgable about her field, the material is not edited well. There is too much information presented in too broad a format. The book reads more like a survey of the literature rather than as a guide for beginning SLP students. Also, there are 76 pages of references but no glossary!

Lots of good and necessary information
Lots of good and necessary information. I wish chapters were shorter. Each chapter held what seemed more like three chapters of content. It would be easier to find what one is looking for if there were more chapters with less content in each. I felt like I was given good building blocks to understand the how-to's therapy but didn't really feel that I was getting the actual how-to. I kept saying to myself, "This is great information. Now how will I use this?" A student who is taking classes and concurrently providing therapy, needs to answer the ever-present question "What am I doing in the clinic tomorrow?" This book doesn't answer that question. It provides the basis to understand other books that do. Luckily, I got my hands on other resources outside of the class textbook to fill in those blanks but not all of my classmates did.

Excellent, practical text book.
The best book I found when asked to teach CLINICAL LINGUISTICS to linguistic students. Authors are very practical, reasonable, fair-minded and clear. Wanna know about this topic? Start with this book. I should send an email to the author (I fell in love with her reading this -- it's just so good.

Great book, but Kindle edition is awful
First, this is a great book. It is well written and easy to read. Rhea Paul is just fantastic. My only negative about this book (and it is a big one) is that the Kindle edition is terrible. It uses location, not page numbers. The table of contents is vague (only gives the chapter, not the points within each chapter), meaning if you are looking for something, you have to start at the chapter and scroll through it to find what you want. I buy the kindle editions of books whenever I can because I like the speed at which I can find things. For this book, I had to buy the book edition as well. This was a waste of money. DO NOT BUY THE KINDLE EDITION.

great book
This one of the most thorough, well-written books I have purchased so far on my journey to becoming an SLP. It is full helpful ideas for therapy that is evidence based. With it's lists and charts of developmental norms and resources, I expect it to be valuable to me for many years.
