Couldn't Be Happier
Greetings, I researched many water distillers extensively prior to purchasing. This particular one with the timer and ease of assembly and cleaning made this choice a 'no-brainer'. My intent from the beginning is to distill tap water (thus sterilizing) for stocking up. Having purchased many MANY jugs of distilled water (and saving the empties) for months, I want to solve ANY water needs I may encounter. CPAP... yes. Drinking... yes. Cooking... yes. Coffee... ABSOLUTELY..! My bases are covered. Although it has been suggested (by others) that this unit won't make 1 liter per hour. . . NOT TRUE..!1. Fill The Tank; (4 liters to the "FULL" mark).2. Power ON. (I HIGHLY recommend setting the timer. Don't let it boil dry..!). I set my timer for 3 hours and 29 minutes. When it shuts off, I have 3 liters in the pot, and about an inch and a half still in the tank.3. It takes the unit 25 - 30 minutes to heat up; (from power on - to - first drip.)4. Once it begins percolating, this unit will WILL produce a liter an hour, (about one drip per second).Things to consider:Make sure the condenser (with the fan) can "breathe" fully. Set it on a counter top, and make sure the exhaust of the fan is not obstructed by kitchen cabinets, or anything that would restrict air flow. Make sure the intake vents are clear (clearance: 4 - 5 inches).Where I live our water isn't 'HARD', but it isn't 'soft' either. I clean the tank every 4 batches with a CLEAN scrubbing sponge (non-abrasive).Make sure the carbon filter covers the outlet in the bottom of the square staging tank (my name for it) where the distilled water flows out. If water can past the filter (instead of through it), it will be ineffective.I like that although I have set this up in the kitchen, it doesn't look a laboratory - my wife is pleased for that too.

Stopped working after less than 1.5 years
Bottom inside boiler chamber rusted because of damage caused in manufacture. This was only 16 months after purchase, so too long to return it, and not under any warranty. This damage was very unnoticable during normal operation because of the shine of the interior under direct light. Eventually, however, I noticed a rust spot on the counter between uses. I thought I had gotten the screw wet, so I used it again. I saw another rust spot but then a small puddle of rust water as well. And it stopped working. You can see in the photos I've attached that the damage inside is poking up into the boiler from the underside. The other photos are the rusted screw, rust along the edge where the bottom cover is connected, and the remains of rust spots after my attempt at removing them from the counter top.An additional complaint that didn't keep me from using it is that I was never able to attach the handle and the metal bands to the glass pitcher. The bands were just too small and i couldn't make it work. The lack of decent instructions didn't help. I was Sharapova of breaking the pitcher, so i just gave up and used it without. This was an expensive purchase for such a cheaply manufactured product.

Easily a 5 star product once you add a $10 timer
As the headline says, add a timer to power off the unit after 3 1/2 hours of use. Unit is designed to run dry, then run hot triggering an automatic shut off. That is a great safety feature but not ideal if you want to make cleaning easier and have the unit last longer. (less wear & tear). Easy to fill, easy to use, makes great water that is so much better than bottled or tap water. My well water is very, very hard and may even have biological contaminants but the distiller boils all that out. After the 3 1/2 hours my timer shuts the unit off with about 1/2 inch of water remaining at the bottom which looks like a chalky slurry - calcium carbonate no doubt. Cleaning is just a matter of dumping out the slurry, wiping it out and refill for another batch. Granted you don't get a full gallon this way with every batch but 7/8th of a gallon twice a day is more than enough.Taking others advice I have never let the unit run dry. Really like the Stainless Steel and Glass path to minimize any possible contaminants - great features. It is a bit noisy - like a small space heater, and it does generate some heat but I have it set up on the back porch - problem solved; also it would be tough to find enough counter space in my small kitchen.Well made and looks like with care the unit will last a long time. Already made about 40 gallons w/o problems. Unit arrived immaculately clean & well packed. I tossed out the first 3 batches to be extra sure the cooling coils were cleaned out completely. About the only Achilles heel I can see in the product is the custom glass funnel - take extra care not to drop it or the glass carafe. There is a tiny bit of assembly for the handle on the carafe - instructions included, once full the carafe is pretty heavy.
