This is the second of this product that I have purchased,as replacements for standard, plastic wastebaskets. The size is perfect for small bathrooms. Its size and shape fit next to vanities and into small places that many traditional round units do not. The best feature is the step/open and closed top feature. Call me finicky, but I prefer to keep my bath trash, out of sight, out of mind. I prefer that anyone who uses my bath does not have to experience an open trash bin. Also, anyone who has pets will truly understand the value of a solid closed lid. Another great feature of this unit is its lift out, washable insert, whether you are a re-use the grocery plastic bags or other plastic liner user kind of person. The basket insert can be scrubbed, sanitized, etc. and it is ready for more trash collection. Overall, this trash can is well made and sturdy and easy to maintain. Don't forget that there is a 5 year warranty on the product as well. I definitely recommend this product to all who are interested.

This trash can is the perfect companion for next to the litter box. Previously I would just grab a grocery bag every time I was going to scoop the box, but we recently added a second cat to the household and the result is me scooping too often and I'm running out of bags. The perfect solution seemed to be to get a trash can for next to the litter box so I can scoop it whenever I walk by, but without wasting bags. Cleaner box, happier owner, and happier cat. Size wise I think this trash can is perfect since it's designed for and perfectly fits grocery store bags. The trash can has a removable inner liner that has handles for holding the handles on the grocery store bag so that the bag stays and no concerns about if you're getting the litter in the bag or not. The can is also fairly compact, solid, and well balanced. I have it placed between the litter box and the wall, and have no concerns that the cats will knock it over. And lastly, the the can does a good job with odor control. The lid provides a pretty good seal keeping the smell of the contents to a very tolerable minimum. Overall I am very pleased, it fit my needs perfectly.

I am the proud owner of two mischievous ferrets. I love watching their creative ingenuity as they figure out how to get on and IN everything. Well, everything except the trash can that is. They love getting into the trash just because they can and come out smelling like... well, trash. I've tried can after cheap can until... Success! SimpleHuman does it again. I recently purchased their kitchen size stainless steel can and fell in love with it so decided to try this one out for my bathroom. Things I love! - While I know it's more eco-friendly not use plastic grocery bags at all, I still have a ton of them around and this can is designed perfectly to use them. Yes, they stick out a little but I don't mind. They did with all my previous cans (that used grocery bags) too. - Step feature means no more wet, grimy hands trying to hit a pop up lid - It's slim! I have a pretty small bathroom and this fits between the toilet and sink with a little room to spare. Measure and compare with the specs! - The ferrets can't figure out how to open it. I think you're trash is safe from everything but a larger dog knocking it over. - Stainless steel sides means ferrets can find purchase on the sides to climb up. The can is small enough I don't think this would effect cats. Things that are not so great - I haven't had as much luck as other reviewers keeping the smell in. It definitely reduces it but you can tell when it's time to take out the trash. - It slides around a little on the linoleum floor a little when I step on the foot pedal. Not a lot, just a little quarter inch scoot. - Stainless steel shows nose prints. I knew this going in, but still something to keep in mind. All in all I highly recommend this trash can for pet owners or those with small spaces. It looks great and works great!

I bought this as a companion piece for my "Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box" (which, by the way, I'm very pleased with). It worked out very well. It's not a big trash can - but just the right size to sit next to the litter box. It has a sturdy removable molded plastic liner inside, with tabs at the ends to hold the handles of plastic grocery bags, which are a perfect fit for it. I put a half-dozen or so grocery bags in it, one inside the other, and hook all the handles on the tabs, then drop the liner into the can. The can itself is solidly built. When I roll/shake/roll back the litter box, I pull out the waste tray that collects the clumps and poops, step on the foot pedal of the trash can, and voila - the waste tray is just the size to be able to dump the waste into the trash can with no spillage. The lid drops back down, seals nicely to keep odors in (I sprinkle some baking soda occasionally also), and the can holds a week's worth of "cat byproduct". When it gets about 3/4 full, I just lift out the liner, unhook the bag, tie up the handles, and drop it into the larger trash bag that's headed for the landfill that week. The liner still has more bags already fixed in it, so I just drop it back into the can, and I'm ready to go. These two products work very well together. I would recommend to Amazon that you offer them as a package!

I've owned this for a number of years, and I can speak to it's longevity and functionality. It has a liner which makes "taking out the trash" easy as well as removing and re-fitting the bag. I don't recall if it came with custom bags (I vaguely think it did) but I never used them. My specific purpose in this type design is to put all those grocery bags you get with virtually everything you buy to use.. at least somewhat ameliorating the bad I feel from all that plastic waste. This fits perfectly the size I get from grocery stores and a number of other places, though some "quicky stores" give you a small bag that really isn't deep enough to fully fill the liner. The bags lap over the top of the liner and wrap under and around some "tabs" built into the side to secure the bag and hold it open. The unit is well-designed for maintainability.. although it is POSSIBLE to spring the connecting rods out of their slots, they do not bend and can be sprung back in without much effort. My ONLY complaint really is that it's hard to clean IF you get stuff down inside the liner (which over time you inevitably will.. I mean it IS a garbage unit!) You almost have to partly take it apart to clean it.. Luckily it does resist this kind of "getting dirty" so you don't have to do this very often. Otherwise it is sturdy, functional and not bad looking. OH! I guess I do have one other minor complaint.. if it is against a wall, the back can't really open properly.. I keep a small brush that I use to clean around the area behind it to act as a spacer to keep it off the wall. Given these minor things to whine about, I'd recommend this to anyone who needs a unit of this type over others I've seen.

Ordered this for my kitchen since I like to take the trash out every day and prefer something small. I like that it fits standard grocery bags perfectly, the step lever to open the lid is very solid and feels like it will last. Unfortunately it only took an afternoon for my dog to learn how to step on the lever to open it and it’s perfect height for his face. Luckily it’s small enough to place on the counter or under the sink when necessary. Remarkably after 2 weeks of heavy use it still looks like new and hasn’t gotten nearly as grimy looking as our last kitchen waste basket would after one day. Glad I chose this option due to the plastic top. I thought it would make it look kinda cheap and tacky but it doesn’t look that bad at all and I don’t have to worry about it getting dented or dinged which is inevitable. Wish you couldn’t see the can liner when the lid is closed but that’s my only qualm.

Got tired of just dumping trash into a random plastic bag sitting on the floor by the sink, so started looking into actual cans, and found this simplehuman, with the plastic lid. Don't care about the quick close/light sound it makes when the lid hits the black plastic liner on the inside. If people are complaining about this, then they must have really noisy lids. I use regular plastic bags for the inside liner, and I also did purchase some bags that were the "equivalent" size for this simplehuman can. Got that because the actual simplehuman liners are way more expensive, so get the cheaper versions, which work just as well. Total money grab on their version--don't spend extra dollars just because the bag has their name on it. I love my can. No rusting, but I don't have it in the bathroom, so that may be why. Will occasionally clean the liner with a disinfecting spray, or just spray it down and let airdry with a Lysol spray. It's great, and a perfect size for my kitchen trash needs.

I never really liked trashcans with a step pedal before I discovered simplehuman. They never seemed to work right, either jerking up the lid or not opening it at all. With simplehuman, the lid opens smoothly each and every time. The amount of pressure I apply with my foot correlates how wide it opens, which is fantastic if I'm worried about odor escaping when I only have something small to toss away or if I have something larger to throw away. It's amazing how well it keeps odors contained inside the can and not escaping into the living area. It's the perfect size to fit between the toilet and vanity. It's very classy looking. It's designed for regular-sized grocery plastic shopping bags as liners so unlike simplehuman's larger versions, you don't need to pay for more expensive liners. I was worried the grocery bags would look tacky as liners (as they did in previous trash cans I've used) but they look no different than regular liners. They fit perfectly and you can barely see it when the lid's closed. In addition to the step peddle on the bottom, there's a discreet handle on the lid so it's easy to open without stepping on the pedal such as when you're sitting on the toilet.

If I had another chance I'd buy the bigger model.
