Doesn't work with Grin products
I, like others, attempted to use this to program a Grin product, in my case a Phaserunner controller.It did not work.I looked at the diagram and compared it to what the manual expects and thought, "perhaps the tx/rx contacts are wired backwards." So, I took apart the wire and reverse those two connections.Tx/Rx reversed: still did not work.I had no issues installing the drivers and it everything seemed ok on that end, along with the controller coming online and being happy to talk to the Cycle Analyst, so while this cord may be fine for other purposes, if you're looking for a Grin replacement, this one is not it.

Works kind of
I too bought this to program Grin Tech e-bike modules. It does successfully communicate with my Baserunner L10 controller, but will not talk to my Cycle Analyst V3. Clearly it's not a perfect match

Caused errors, erratic operation of the device it was attached to
As the headline implies this is most likely is powered by a phony Prolific chipset, if you go to there site you will learn the market is full of them.I am not implying the seller is aware of this.Reason I say this is I have another cable same type and it works perfect and it checks out as genuine, this did not.The only thing that can account for the buggy operation is a faulty chipset.If you are having issues search the Prolific com website for their chipset checker.I returned the cable I bought the same day

Perfect.
I needed this cable to program a bunch of LG televisions. LG wanted a considerable amount more for their version. I only needed to use it on 4 tv's in total and clone the rest but it paid for itself with the first one.

Effective and Well Made Serial Interface
Converting a serial data output to USB isn’t very common. Having that serial output come from a 1/8” stereo jack is even less common. This unit manages both ends very well, and usually doesn’t even require special drivers.
