Iron-Safe Premium Iron Shoe with Top Hat Non-Stick Laminate Sole Plate

Two-Sentence Summary: This is a great add-on for clothes irons that allows me to press dark, thick, and delicate fabrics quickly, at high heat, and without scorching. It should fit almost any standard-sized electric iron is easy to put on and remove as needed. I purchased this device on the recommendation of a friend, to help with ironing dark cotton, wool, and silk clothes. Ironing these with a traditional iron is difficult due to scorching, Scorching leaves shiny stains on the fabric, most often along seams, which are difficult or impossible to remove with washing. Previously I used a damp cloth between the iron and garment to prevent scorching, but this was a wet and time-consuming process. Professional dry cleaners and hotels utilize steamers to avoid this problem, but that is neither practical nor cost-effective for most of us. This devices utilizes a very smooth non-stick surface, similar to a better frying pan, to prevent scorching. With the device installed, I have successfully ironed dark shirts, dark cotton pants, and silk neckties of all colors with high heat and no rag, spray bottle, or ironing net. Having this device has made it much easier and faster to iron these garments, and allows me to press items which I previously would have sent to the dry cleaner. My savings in dry cleaning have paid for this item within the first weeks, and I pack it with me whenever I travel to freshen-up clothes with the hotel iron. I would very strongly recommend anybody who irons dark, wool, or silk clothes at home to invest in this product.

You can't tell from the picture but this is a laminated aluminum product. Very well made. The attachment method (spring) requires that your iron's sole plate have a some type of lip or ridge at the bottom. Works very well, protects all fabric types from burns, sticking to iron, etc. What is nice is you can use this with a low cost iron (it will not matter what type of coating is on the iron's sole plate) and get the results of a much higher priced iron.

I initially thought I would need to return this before I ever got a chance to use it. The instructions say to slip the spring over the base of the iron behind the handle. With the design of my iron, this was not possible. But, with a simple modification it works great. I just needed a pair of pliers to bend the wire connecting the spring so that I could unfasten it and slip it beneath thr handle. A VERY easy fix that took about thirty seconds to complete. Once I have it in place, it works exactly as described. It protects the fabric, so even when ironing wool on the highest heat setting I get no shine or any issues whatsoever. The only tiny bit of shine on anything was when I forgot to turn it down and used it on rayon on high heat. And even that still didn't damage the fabric. If this were designed with a detachable spring, it would be a five star review. I wish it were easier to remove for cleaning, and that I didn't have to modify it to make it work. But it truly was an easy modification, so overall I'd call this a minir complaint once I got it worked out.

*I never bought anything like this item pictured. A sole plate for an iron?; nope. My review Was for a neat, slim, trash receptacle that hangs down in front of a serger. This works exactly as described and I could not recommend it highly enough. I am serging mainly sweaters and they produce a lot of waste, this has been wonderful to use. I simply scoot the serger up to the edge of the table to accommodate the lip of this trim catcher and serge away. Lovely, Thanks!

Received quickly. Just as ordered. My serger fits the base. However, trim catcher doesn't fit under the blade. The cuttings drop onto the pad and then you have to swipe the little pile into the bag. This still keeps your area clean.

The Iron Safe is exactly what my wife was looking for. Her old one was very old (decades) and finally gave up the ghost. Price and product great. However, it is shipped in a large Amazon envelope, no padding. The first one arrived on the doorstep bent, just enough to make it unusable. So it went back to Amazon, and a replacement arrived in 2 days. The new iron is very happy to have a new safe plate.

HORRIBLE!! I bought this thinking I could use spray starch and avoid scorch marks on my iron and fabric. My fabric did not scorch, but after (literally) 6 presses with some spray starch this cover was scorched and covered. Just took the plate off to find that the starch seeped through the holes in this plate and scorched my iron too. My iron looks worse than if I hadn't used this at all!! Avoid at all costs!!
