Zero to 183 in no time
I had just finished reading DEADLY DECISIONS by Kathy Reichs and was looking forward to reading BARE BONES, but it was kind of late at night and I thought: :Well, I can start this tomorrow." then after reading the back cover 5 or 6 times I decided to just start it, read a chapter or two and then get into it for real the next day. The next thing I knew I thought I should go to bed because I had to work the next day and I was on page 183. Holy smokes!!! This is the third book I've read in the Temperance Brennan series and I just ordered 3 more. Every one of these novels move along at a brisk pace. BARE BONES again has Tempe discovering bones where they shouldn't be and begins to unravel a mystery, This one has plenty of plot twists and a few times I thought I had it figured out just to find (as Tempe did too) that I was wrong. Again in this book, Brennan is required to work with a detective that she does not particularly like but again softens her opinion of him by the end of the story, showing that she too can be wrong. Oh yeah, Andrew Ryan is again on hand as the love interst. Another good plot by Reichs makes this an easy one to recommend. Can't wait to start the next one.

Not her best novel, too much going on . Tried to cover crop much. Confusing. Took fifty pages of explaining after story over

So-So. Please Get Rid of Ryan
Actually, I didn’t find this as good as previous books, though the individual plots were good. Its not unusual, at all, to find Dr. Brennan having a couple cases going on at the same time. I felt too much going on in this particular book. It spread itself in too many directions. Add to that, Dr. Brennan finding herself in serious peril, at one point, just became too much. I found myself skimming over sections, which I hadn’t done in previous works. It seemed just too much going on and too wordy.Add to that, Dr, Brennan’s romantic interest. The doctor is a well-educated anthropologist and consummate professional. She’s involved with this cop who is completely annoying at best and a complete mis-match with her. He likes to talk like a cowboy of old. (Give me a break), and has the cheesiest, corniest jokes and overall sense of humor. Put these two in real life and there would be absolutely nothing she sees in this yahoo. Ms. Reichs, please dump this Ryan character.Looking forward to the next installment in the series.

BARE BONES
AS WITH ALL OF KATHY REICH'S BOOKS THIS ONE IS A GOOD MYSTERY WITH A GOOD FLOW OF READING MATERIAL. IN THIS BOOK HOWEVER, THERE ARE MORE MEDICAL TERMS THAN IN THE OTHERS. I WOULD HAVE LIKED MORE TRANSLATIONS OF THESE TERMS TO HAVE MADE THE READING EASIER TO FLOW. ONE OTHER POINT. IN A SECTION OF THE BOOK, TEMPE GIVES RYAN A SAM ADAMS BEER AND MS. REICH SAYS THAT HE TWISTED OFF THE CAP AND BEGANS TO DRINK THE CONTENTS. AS A SAM ADAMS DRINKER MYSELF I KNOW THAT THE BOTTLE DOES NOT HAVE A TWIST CAP SO AS TO FORM A MORE PERFECT SEAL AND PREVENT AIR TO SEEP INTO THE BOTTLE AND CHANGE THE QUALITY OF THE BEER.

Bare Bones
Superlative descriptors cannot capture the joy of reading Kathy Reichs . Bare Bones lays bare a world of details without losing the big pictures of wildlife and drug smuggling around the planet and here in our back yards. Every mystery novel since Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson puzzled out the clues to solve the crimes, all my favorite authors have prepared the way for Temperance Brennan. Reichs has found the way to educate me further in major ways. I love her integrative progression and surprise twists, the feeling of being present as an observer at her elbow in the labs and the field. The one word to associate with her literary style is yet to be coined...

Kathy Reichs' books are good, but fairly predictable
Kathy Reichs' books are good, but fairly predictable, lots of personal life crises with relationships (Ryan), family (sister Harry this time) and a potential assault on her in the build to a climax. Still very interesting forensic anthropology stuff (which I like best) and in this case several deaths--possible murders--that may or may not link together. Also a foray into the Acadian culture of Canada which was new territory for me. So different from the TV series which I enjoy for itself.

Another set of boxes ticked
Having read the books in sequence I am following a personal life through successive volumes. It does not swamp the individual stories. We've seen her not-yet-ex spouse, sister, nephew and now daughter close up to the storyline but not together. Otherwise they are merely familial concerns. Her will-they, won't-they get it on romance-lacking pairing with the Canadian policeman Ryan has been close to the centre of some stories while she has dallied with others. She teases the reader for several chapters about following up on last book liaison by starting the story as she prepares for a holiday/vacation. And there is a very red herring. Humour is very frequently in her interchanges. Sarcasm being appropriate much of the time.Again her non-heroine is in every scene but she is not super sleuth and this time blunders heavily into the solution of the case after some detective work based on her professional expertise explains the last of the bare bones in the title. Heavy last chapter summary about the need for CITES and its failures.Nicely woven elements. She creates suspense well but does not keep the reader in the dark for long. Actual writing style is growing on me avoiding constant "he said", "she said", "her replied" formats.Need to buy next instalment of series.

Kathy Reichs - Bare Bones
So here we have the 6th edition to Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan series. This time we join Tempe at home in Carolina as she prepares for a well needed vacation. Before hand though, she's invited by her daughter to a picnic to meet her daughter's new love interest. While enjoying the picnic Tempe and her dog Boyd stumble upon some bones (of course) and here we have the beginning of our mystery. Soon enough Tempe's vacation is called in and the discovered bones seem to be related to another case Tempe's investigating involving bones of a new born child burnt to death in an oven. Now this is a good enough book, fast paced and enjoyable enough but it's all just so cliched. Tempe, once an enjoyable, realistic character to rival Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta, here becomes a tired template of the genre. It was somewhat annoying in the fact that all the clues and integral parts of the mystery seemed to just fall into Brennan's lap. And I'll agree with what some other reviewers have been saying that this seems a bit dumbed down. When I first started reading this series the books where in depth and actually took a bit of effort to read and keep track of the plot. But with this offering we have the key components of the plot handed to us on a big ol' platter. And just in case we missed them first time around we have them repeated a few times after for good measure. Now none of this is a bad thing, i'm still awarding it 3 stars and if you've been following the series or are even just a fan of the genre i'm sure you'll enjoy this one. However I know Reichs' is capable of better. And on a final note the ending is so rushed and abysmally unoriginal you'll be left wondering whether or not Kathy simply lost interest in the story.
