Faulty and UNRELIABLE From The Start.
This is my 2nd unit. My firsttester worked great for about 4 years. This new unithas been anything but usable. Stsrts testing without touching a stone. Gives false readings. I wanted to send it back, unfortunately, I didn't use for the first two and after giving it some testing time, it was past the 30 day return period. Very frustrating and I lost $$$.

Works but should have bought a different one
It’s a little vague when narrowing down gems. Battery life isn’t very good spend a little for and get the analog model.

Doesn't give consistent reads, came opened and used.
Recieved item already opened and used and defective. Will be returning this and trying it from elsewhere.Inconsistent results may be from damage from prior user. If it gave consistent readings and the tip worked reliably it would be great, alas this particular one is a mess.Plastic packaging for USB cord open and empty (usb loose in box), power button had crud on it, plastic tape to cover screens was on the wrong side of it and battery cover won't stay on.Will be returning for refund.

Calibration test fail - disc #2 fail out of box. Bulky
Mine came with a faulty calibration disc #2. So I had to register device with manufacturer for warranty and then contact support to get a replacement calibration disc. Kind of a pain in the a$$ for something that should be ready to go out of the box!Prior to calibrating the device, I did do a test for accuracy. 5 out of 4 stones (2 rubies and 2 sapphires, 1 peridot) peridot I purchased on Ebay came back as green glass 😡, 2 sapphires tested accurately, 1 ruby tested accurately and 1 ruby tested as spinel. (All purchased on EBay). It’s a little too fat / bulky for my hand as far as comfort for my hand for prolonged use.So other than the calibration test fail error and having to contact Manufacturer and file a claim to send me replacement for disc #2, I’d say my purchase was worth the expense. I’d recommend it.

Software glitch though aesthetically pleasing unit with great ergonomics
Nice idea in theory and ergonomically it is very nicely designed. My unit had problems though starting with the battery compartment cover which just fell off when snapped into place...needed two pieces of tape to keep it on securely. Much more importantly however, the software appeared to have substantive issues as it would go into a loop wherein it consistently thought it was testing a gem. The only stone it was able to reliably identify was diamond. Otherwise, it was unable to ID tourmaline, spinel, amethyst, topaz, or other common colored stones. Overall, if it worked well it would be a great instrument but in this case I think I will go to one of Presidium's analogue display testers which have proven reliable over a longer period of time.
