What is the size of the two parts that get screwed into place?

I took a tape measure to mine and came up with some numbers. The hinge base measured 1 3/4 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches long. The holes were all 3/4 inch apart. The hook part was 3/4 inch wide by 1 inch long, by 1 inch tall. The holes were 1/2 inch apart. The loop measured 4 1/2 inches long. All of the holes accepted 1/4 inch screws. I used 1/4-20 screws.

It’s 3 complete latches. Each latch is in 2 pieces, the lock mechanism and the catch.

can this be used on a steam boiler?

I would think the boiler is heavy cast and these are not that heavy. Truthfully I used them on a side door of a 26’ box truck to help the factory latch and it worked perfectly.

Will they rust outdoor? I want to use them as a wood gate lock.

They appear to be either zinc coated or have something that retards rust. That said, they are more what I would consider an occasional use latch, not something that is operated frequently. They have nuts to adjust the latching distance/securing as in making the closing not rattle when it is latched. These nuts do move, but aren't hard to re-adjust. Overall I would stay away from outside gate use if it is operated regularly. They are good latches, just not a robust and rugged latch for opening and closing frequently
