Expectations are critical here
It seems like when I read lot of existing reviews for this item there is plenty of disappointment. When I read what they're trying to power with these things it looks to me like expectations are way too high. These are very very small units. Even the largest one grouped on this page I would not consider to be adequate for a desktop computer. None-the-less, I confess I am confused to see this series of UPS promoted for (among other things) desktop computers and home theaters...big items with big power draws even though the largest in this series is only capable of providing a maximum of 400 watts and then only for 2 minutes (no doubt only achievable with a battery in perfect condition)! Considering I'm being asked as part of the review to rate WiFi signal be a big clue that somebody is terribly confused about what a UPS actually is and why you might want one of these in particular. All that said, think small devices. Think chargers, security system, an emergency LED light or two, maybe an average laptop (if it's own built in battery is lacking). I bought this specifically as a backup for our FiOS ONT (optical network terminator) so that internet would continue during a power outage. That is all this one does. I have a second slightly larger unit running all my networking equipment so WiFi and network jacks stay up and the internet remains serviceable during a power outage for a reasonable length of time (not indefinitely, not for a day, even an hour might even be pushing it), but certainly long enough to coast through a typical short term outage. And I haven't even had it a month and already it was tested earlier this week when the power went out for about 30 minutes, came back for about 10 minutes, then went off again for another 20. Internet stayed up and the kids probably never even noticed, and I was able to continue work from home on a laptop. The UPSes, all of them, operated well within ratings, performed as advertised: flawlessly.

I Buy These All The Time - They Work. CyberPower Rules.
As an independent I.T. guy - I work with dozens of small and medium sized businesses. This product, being the 435VA 255W (one of their smaller UPS products) is affordable and perfect for individual offices, workstation setups, and even just a great replacement for traditional power strips. If you're going to power PCs, monitors, AND devices like printers / phones - be sure to consider their power consumption because this model is meant for light use. I've actually never hooked enough stuff to trigger an alert - but I do know the battery time becomes rather short if you use this for several high-demand devices - rendering it less valuable in the event of an outage. Power surges though? This works great to prevent flashes and blips that plague most small businesses in rapidly developing or older neighborhoods / office parks. This product is absolutely perfect, but just be sure you are buying the right model for your usage - because this model is one of their smallest and shouldn't be used for the fancy setups / multi-office workstation configurations. I think many newbies or consumers get into trouble when they see this thinking it is the same as the others but just costs less... unfortunately - they find out the hard way when the power goes out for longer than 10 minutes and their server, 2 workstations and 5 monitors power off after 3 minutes of the outage.

Best price / performance ratio on the market
I've used Cyberpower UPS for years as I live in a suburban area subject to frequent blackouts lasting from several seconds to several days. I use Cyberpower UPS to keep my TiVo functional, keep my FIOS modem / wireless router running, and keep my iMac bittorrent server running. I've never been disappointed in Cyberpower's products and the single time I needed warranty service it was rapid and complete. My brother has multiple handicaps and uses his laptop as his primary entertainment point. Recently his area (not far from my home) has begun suffering blackouts of several minutes to several hours duration. He asked me to select an UPS to keep his DSL modem / wireless router running. Of course I turned to Amazon and selected this model from Cyberpower. The Westell's wall wart consumes around 7 watts. When this arrived, I charged it for 8 hours then pulled the plug with a 15 watt CFL lamp on the backup outlet. An hour later the lamp was still lit and the UPS wasn't indicating pending shutdown. As to the green claim, it stands up. I am a 56 year old tech geek and purchased the P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor from Amazon back when it was introduced. I used it to measure the watts drawn while charging then in battery maintenance. This unit does consume far less power maintaining the battery as compared to the standard CPS425SL.Some of my Cyberpower UPS are more than 7 years old and only now are needing their batteries replaced. Battery replacement is simply removing 6 or more screws from the bottom of the UPS models I own, opening it up, unplugging the old battery, then reversing the process to install the new battery. It takes less than 5 minutes from the time I unplug it from the electric outlet until it's plugged back in and ready for service. Please be sure to observe all safety precautions when replacing the battery.I also own UPS systems by APC and recommend them also. They offer higher output with less runtime and I use them for my quad core systems. For the more than 2 hour to multiple day outages I purchased an ETQ generator from Amazon and a Reliance Controls transfer switch. I recommend these products for extended outages.

Reliable surge protection and power back up that works.
We live in a rural area with frequent brown outs, especially during thunderstorms. I wanted protection so that a brown out would not force my router and internet receiving antennae to restart each brown out. I also wanted one to protect my computer. I bought two more of these units because my husband has one he bought seven years ago. He has had to replace the battery once. (He took the battery out and found an identical one on Amazon.) Other than that, it has worked perfectly for him. During out recent major winter storm there were huge utility issues and many lines downed in high wind and wet snow. We had many brown outs, dozens per hour, before total power failure and then a lot of surges and brownouts as the power was slowly restored to our region. Having these units meant our router did not quit during a quick brown out or power switch. When the power died we had time to shut down in an orderly fashion, saving our work, and unlike our neighbours, no surge damage after power was restored but not reliable. We were also able to log in and quickly check email and weather reports several times after the power went out but while the local internet tower was still working. During the storm these nifty little units more than paid for themselves. Bonus they also work like a power bar.

Saved my computer
I live in an area that has constant power loss, and many times through the day (issue with the power supply chain for the last few months). Just a split second power loss, which has all electronics shut off. My pc has been damaged by so many power cuts, it takes longer and longer to turn on and having performance issues. I received my UPS and no more sudden shut offs, and my PC is running great. The only issue is that i find i cant have both my monitors plugged in with my pc into the surge protector slots or i will overload it. BUT I am using two 40" HD led tvs and a tower pc, so I will be drawing lots of power Even when writing this, my power shut off 3 times and Im still going. Love this
