Solid, solid, and more solid for travel, performance, and storage...
I had used a previous version of this product for data courier duty a few years ago, and this one did not disappoint during a corporate disaster recovery scenario. The instructions for setting up and using the PINs (admin and user) are easy to follow, and once the drive is in an unlocked state, it works just like any other, high-quality USB drive.Depending on how I was reading/writing (single stream or multiple), I got up to 40+ MB/s going through am okay Ultrabook's USB port. It was plenty big and plenty quick enough to meet all of my needs, and we may end up making it part of our overall DR strategy since it can be a replication target in a remote location (behind a computer) and carried/shipped to a DR site on a moment's notice.Formatted capacity seemed to be a bit over 3.6 TB on mine. I'm not sure if that varies or not, but it more than met my needs.

Only been using this device for a week but it is easy to use and seems durable. Same speed of any other USB3-std hard drive.

Secure and fast
I just received this unit and setup was easy. Login is per the keypad on top and all software is encased in epoxy inside the solid aluminum enclosure. Once logged in my brand new windows 7 computer downloads music files at about 70MB/second which is good for an encrypted drive like this. All my pictures also downloaded at about 70MB/second also. You will however not be able to use the windows 7 backup feature with this drive because it is a 4K sector allocation size drive which is the new standard. It will pause during backup and list an I/O error at the time when the backup is attempting to do a system image. Windows 7 uses the old 512 byte sector allocation size. This is a fairly common experience at this time due to the transition from 512 to 4096 sector size. I still gave this a 5 star rating because for me it is only a minor inconvenience.

Just What I needed
I use this drive with unison to to sync an NAS drive - I can then take it offsite without worrying about it because it is locked. Locks as soon as it is removed from the usb connection. This is exactly what I wanted and it works great and fast.

Good solid drives
Great device. In use over a year to secure hipaa data. Solid, works, reliable. Called support once on a small issue related to operation. Sorry attitude at that level, however, we have about 6 of these or their smaller brothers in use for secure data backup, never needed to call but once. All perform well. The only hassle is the 14 digit pin we use but that’s not their issue. Also have them set to destroy all data with 6 fails to log in. **For those with data to protect and meet DOJ standards...can’t go wrong**. Have used Apricorn drives for sever decades and they’re as reliable as any. Don’t use an extension usb cable on these for best results just the native made cable.

Secure way (I think) to travel with files. Has quirks however
As a technical consultant, I have an obligation to keep my client files confidential and secure. This drive seems to be ideal for that. I'm not sure if there is a way to "crack" the drive encryption but it fulfils my contractual duty of care. Laptops are either not at all secure (don't kid yourself on this point) or if you use a drive locker and there is a crash-OMG its all gone, apps, data the works. Plus this allows me to share files between my lovely lightweight LG gram and my brutus of a Dell i9. The drive does have some quirks. It does NOT like to transfer files from another external drive (internal drives seem ok). It often crashes Explorer when I do this and it makes a real mess, then drops off line. I have been forced to move files onto the PC first and then to the drive to stop that. There seems to be a problem if the connected machine goes to sleep- the drive locks and then the connected machine won't wake up. So count on locking the drive before you hibernate/sleep. Forget that and its a hard reboot, and SFC to see what broke. Other than that, its fast, its heavy/solid. Don't know about shock resistance, not going to try that out.

Safe and secure
I like the security features of this drive. Be advised this does need a power source to plug into (it's not just USB). It comes with a power cord and the usb cable too. Device is large about the size of a hardcover chapterbook and heavy. If you only need 2tb, this company offers a smaller size (physically) drive with similar security that only needs usb power.
