Fantastic quality.
This is my favorite bird feeder. The birds love this bird feeder. Squirrels do not like it because it turns when they try to get onto it. They have tried unsuccessfully to get onto the feeder and have essentially given up. As a result, the birds are free to use this bird feeder any time they want. The feeder is weatherproof and very sturdy. It also holds a lot of bird seed. It looks great in my backyard.

Finally, one that works!follow up after 5 momths
This anti-squirrel feeder is the bomb! It's a quality piece, easy to assemble, easy to clean, and easy to refill. And...it actually works in being squirrel-proof! It works so well that after about a week, the squirrels no longer even try. They just gather the seeds that lay on the ground. It has been such a joy watching the birds come and feed in the mornings and late afternoons. It's become quite the attraction. We now have the neighborhood diner for squirrels.I felt I was taking a small risk as this feeder is not inexpensive. But it works so well and the value is so great, this morning I ordered another one!Dec 2023. We've been using it for nearly six months now and I am more convinced now than ever before. This is an amazing feeder and is worth every penny we spent. The squirrels actually learn to stay away despite their best efforts to get to the seeds. It's easy to full and maintain and seems, except for one minor concern, to be incredibly durable. The battery holds a charge, but the longer we leave it out, the less frequently it needs to be charged because the squirrels learn to stay away. When it does need to be cleaned and charged, it's an easy and quick process. Our feeder area has become an incredible community center for the birds in our area. We spend early mornings and lazy afternoons amazed by the number of birds that show up. Trying to identify them all can be a challenge! One benefit is that, while the perches are better suited for small birds, the seeds that fall to the ground attract larger birds as well.I'll attach a picture of the lid to the feeder. It's made of rugged metal and shows the evidence of some squirrels that managed to get on top and tried to gnaw their way into the seed chamber. This is a well-thought-out design! Our only minor concern is the container for the seed. It is showing a faint crack near the top. I am going to investigate whether replacements are available. It will be a small price to pay for all the enjoyment we get form this feeder.

A solid product - updated again! 5 years later
The media could not be loaded. Video: the Flipper in action! No squirrels got hurt in the process of making the video. :)Initial review from 2010: Works well so far - it's been outside since I got it in July and the birds love it. The squirrels were at first wary and then they got a little daring - and got flung gently away. I don't get a huge variety of birds (it's winter now so that has something to do with it) and my local birdfeed store guy told me that cardinals can't clutch the ring perch. It seems to be true - the cardinals will eat from the other (bar type perch instead of ring perch) feeder but not this one.It does seem tough and well made, extremely easy to fill, and it looks absolutely brand-new although it has been out there in the elements feeding a ton of birds for about six months now. I am glad I bought this, although it is pricey! and I would buy it again. It would make a great present for anyone you know who has a regular feeder and is sick of battling the squirrels.By the way, I spill some seed on the ground for the squirrels - I am not trying to starve them but I don't want them scaring away the birds.UPDATE to review (September 2012): Okay, 3 years later and this thing is going strong. The squirrels have been able to chew a little bit into the paint on the metal top (the damage is not disfiguring, or noticeable from a normal distance) - otherwise this has held up really well, and it's been out there 24 hours a day for over three years now in all weather. I have only had to recharge it once or twice a year (I bring it in overnight and charge with the AC adaptor) - you can tell when it needs charging when you catch the squirrels lying in the perch ring and gorging themselves :) I have had cardinals, house finches, very pretty goldfinches, and a few red-bellied woodpeckers.Summary - this was a really satisfying purchase and I recommend it. If I need another feeder I will only buy Droll Yankee = every other feeder I have ever used has fed the squirrels and not the birds.UPDATE to review (July 2015): 5 years of gentle squirrel deterring and it's still working well! It's a bit scarred and scraped up by determined and toothy squirrels, but it works flawlessly. It still needs to be charged only maybe twice or three times a year (as above, I can tell it needs a charge when you see a squirrel lolling in the ring at the bottom gorging LOL - if you pay more attention than I do, you may notice that it needs a charge before the situation gets to that). I have seen the new version of the Flipper, and they have added a thingy at the bottom of the unit so that a clear plastic tray can be added very easily to catch the sunflower seed hulls. I would consider buying another just so I can use one of those with it. Those hulls make a terrible mess.So again - what a terrific purchase. Really, really happy with it. I am bumping my rating from four to five stars bcs seriously? What else works this well for this long without issues? Five stars it is!

The best feeder ever!
My third Droll Yankees flipper. Always fun to watch the squirrels get flipped off although they have learned they can ride the feeder and have it fling seeds while they do. These feeders last a long time (5-6 years) and the birds love it. Highly recommended.

Keeps the pests away - lasted me 15 years before replacing it
Does what it says it will do - and is effective. Easy to setup and made of quality durable materials. This is my second one - the first one lasted 15 years and I got rid of it only because the battery was not holding a charge for as long as it should ... could have replaced the battery for around 100, but figured, heck, I'll buy a new one so it's sparkly and new looking - after 15 years figured we it was due. Battery holds the charge for months and at times for all season... easy to remove battery and recharge without removing the seed or making a mess. More expensive than other feeders, but then again, this will be the only one you buy... no trial and error here - this just works. Squirrels go flying and can't get a grip. Top is thick material and they can't even gnaw their way through if they tried (and they do...) Recommend.
