I love this book! The color formulas make this a necessary resource.
This book is worth the price alone just for the color formulas. If you are making cookies that need to match something like wedding colors, this book is your salvation. I've been making decorated sugar cookies for eight years, and matching colors is always a trial and error exercise in wasted royal frosting. Lots of tips. Very helpful. Most cookie decorating books are good for one read and then you don't need to reference them again. This book will be a constant reference.

Very good content, but disappointing layout.
Georganne Bell is a very talented cookie BOSS! She rocks her way with royal icing to shape and shade and bring her vision to an almost 3-D effect. This is her first foray into this competitive field and she has done well with the actual teaching. The learning steps for the cookies themselves are in a nicely photographed order, though a bit small in size. Everything is listed alphabetically though the shapes are not listed in the front "Contents" page, so for example, if you are looking for a Christmas shape, you have to look under the first letter of the shape name rather than having a section dedicated just to Christmas cookie tutorials (though if you look under the letter "C", it will have the title "Christmas" and it will list all the shapes that have a tutorial, but you need to go to the first letter of the shape you're looking for, to find it). This was why I was rather disappointed in the layout of this book in that it is a confusing layout of techniques and lessons, all being set in alphabetical order rather than a systematic order for more easy learning. For instance, most baking/teaching books have the preparatory section, equipment section, recipe section in the beginning of the book. In this book, everything is scattered in an alphabetical order as opposed to titled sections. For instance, "consistency of icing" is next to "cookie cutters" or you see a couple of cookie exercises, then a paragraph with an explanation about a tool or a technique, then back to the cookie exercises. Food coloring is next to a fox cookie, frame cookie, then a section on freezing cookies and royal icing. Perhaps for some, this might be an appreciated outline of learning, but for me, this is a very difficult way of trying to find the section you're looking for, let alone having to learn steps in order. I would offer that in the next printing, they might consider changing the layout of the book. Also, I purchased the color cards; they are a very nice portable tool, but these are already in the book, so if you're satisfied with them being in the book, you wouldn't need to purchase them in addition. So for content, I would give it 4 stars, but for ease of learning, the layout would be 2 stars.........meeting in the middle would be 3 stars. If you're good with whatever order the book is displayed, then this would be a wonderful cookie decorating book for you.

More information on color than most anything else
I purchased this in the hopes that it would have a bit more information for people who have not done cookie decorating for a while. I was hoping for a resource list but I found nothing like that.I appreciated having the color charts that help one to find the right color of icing/frosting. I also liked having some pictures/tutorials of how to decorate the cookie examples in the book.Perhaps my lack of exuberance in this is what I should have realized by the title - this a cookie companion, not a book that covers more detail that I would have liked to have seen. The Chapters:1 - Let's Get Started2 - Colors3 - Color Charts4 - Color Palettes5 - Compendium6 - Index7-About the authorThere are some simple recipes for cookie dough as well as icing. I believe I will use this book most for the color charts, as those can be very valuable.

Love the color indexing!!!
I met the author briefly when I ran past her at a book signing at Barnes and noble. I grabbed a couple of her cookies for my kids in the car and kept a mental note to check out her book. Fast forward 8 months- I saw the book at gygi and thumbed through it, bought it then and tried her recipes that night. I WISH I HAD STOPPED AT BARNES AND NOBLE TO GET THE BOOK SIGNED AT THAT FIRST ENCOUNTER. She is an artist. This book is truly awesome!!! I am a serious cookie baker. I consider cookies a food group. I host a crazy huge cookie exchange every few years where I make 60 dozen elaborately decorated cookies (10 different types of cookies; 6 dozen of ea type). I’m really into cookies 🍪. This book is an incredible resource for color matching, getting color combo ideas and for a few solid cookie recipes that I will use again and again. I don’t keep a lot of cookie cookbooks because usually I only LOVE one or two in each book and I clip the recipe and put it in my binder. I will keep this book on hand for the chocolate recipe and the color matching- which was a game changer for me. I threw away all of my old food coloring and went with the brand they mentioned in the book so I could used the color recipes. Also, have you ever had a cookie with royal icing and it tasted good? Me neither until this book. I mean-aren’t they usually beautiful yet nasty- not anymore, you can have it all. Yummy cookie recipes and gorgeous decorating ideas.

Helpful but colour section could be more useful
I got this particularly for the colour nosing section and while it’s somewhat helpful I was disappointed to find that you have to have a LOT of colours to begin with — it doesn’t just use the basic red/yellow/blue/green etc. So if you have or are willing to buy lots of colours then it works fine but if you’re after something that will help you mix from basic colours, this book isn’t quite right. The designs and other information is good.

My cookie bible
Love this book! It's not only about decorating ideas but explains hiccups in your cookie dough, royal icing and how you can fix it or modify your cookie to be the best! Color chart is awesome! I gave it to my daughter as she is in love with the book!

Ravie, donc.
