From atoms and molecules to the laws of motion and thermodynamics, this amazing course will introduce your child to the properties of matter and the basic building blocks of life. Your family will bond over this exploration of God s design for the universe as you investigate states of matter, energy in its many forms, magnetism, and simple machines. Dynamic projects for this course include mixing materials to make a bouncy ball and creating a smoke bomb. Your child will also build a solar oven, a working periscope, and a miniature motor! Review: Wow! - Really great- here are some reasons this book (and the series- we own 4 of them) is great! 1) Quality, through content that is age appropriate- yet not dumbed down 2) Very nicely done graphics. 3) Experiments only require easy access household materials generally . 4) It is written to the student and is fun in tone. 5) Gives a non-evolution perspective to the subject matter. I purchased this for my 4th and 6th graders- but likely will have my 10&11th graders also read through it...it's that good!! Review: Excellent Resource - This is the fourth book we have purchased in the series and we've loved them all. The boys can't wait to do science, especially as this book is loaded with experiments. The experiments for the most part involve things found in your home. There is an helpful list of supplies in the beginning of the book. It will make the lessons go smoother if you assemble them all in the beginning so you don't have to go searching for the occasional odd thing (stump remover, steel wool). This may be called the "Young Explorer Series" but our whole family enjoys it!

Great late elementary/early middle school book
We were looking forward to this Apologia book as we have enjoyed others. The format appears different and at first I wondered if it was up to par for 5-6th grades, but comparing to other books it's just a font/color change and I like it. The "try it" sections are headed now with a colorful box to help it stand out. Previous books from Apologia just have it as regular text and you don't notice you have something hands on to do that page until you get there or search out the title. I like this change. And wow, are there a lot of the "try it" sections! Great for these topics. We are glad we got this book from Apologia, it's very well done.

First time using Apologia and we love it!
After purchasing this book for a co-op, we love it. It’s infused with Scripture, easy to read, and my kids love the experiments. 10/10 recommend. Never knew there were textbooks that existed like this, especially for science. We are Christian and really appreciated the references back to Scriptures. Looking forward to purchasing more texts!

Solid Curriculum, Wish There Were Tests
I have previously used a different curriculum that I liked, and I am sort of a creature of habit. However, after reading some reviews, I decided to live dangerously and shake things up a bit by trying this curriculum. It is turning out that I actually really do like this curriculum. I find it to be very thorough for a grade school level. I am using this for my 6th grader, and it is easy to teach. The book explains concepts well in a way that I can understand and teach her, and in a way that she gets it. I really like and recommend the accompanying notebooking journal Chemistry and Physics Notebooking Journal (Young Explorer Series) as it is full of pages to jot down what the child has learned and even illustrate things like atoms and molecules, it has crossword puzzles of the science terms they have learned, and even additional experiments if the many experiments in the book are not enough for you, or you could pick and choose the ones you want to do. So the notebooking journal really is great for reviewing and helping the concepts to stick in their heads. The only complaints I have are that I wish this curriculum came with tests. I realize it is a growing trend to not test kids in the home school world, and I can respect that. But I think it gives my child accountability, so I have had to make up my own tests, and I have even had her make do-your-own tests in which she goes through the chapter and makes up her own questions, usually by finding terms in bold. and then has to go back and answer them. This does help more than you would think. It is much like an open book test, but at least she is having to go back over and look these terms up. So tests would be nice, and my only other complaint is that some of the experiments did not work for us even though we followed the instructions. This can get pricey and a waste. The one using alum to make crystals--we followed it to a "t" and nada. And the rock candy, we failed at that too, I later found a youtube video that explained that if you dip a skewer into sugar first, it will give the crystals something to adhere to. We should have tried that. Some of the simpler ones have worked, so you just have to pick and choose the ones you want to do, maybe based on expense or how easy it is to do. I do recommend researching on the internet the more complicated experiments to see if there is a better, more fail-proof way. But overall, this is a great curriculum, and if it came with tests and tweaked some of the experiments, it would get five stars! I paid full price for this item. All opinions are my own.

Great science text
I definitely recommend getting the note booking journal with this text and collecting items perhaps the summer before hand if you want to do a lot of the experiments. There are so many hands on experiment options though that a Type A personality like me really had to struggle to accept that we just can't do them all...a good problem to have. This goes so much deeper into Chemistry and Physics than elementary to 6th grade public schools in my area go. I believe it gave my daughter a very broad and rich understanding that will benefit her later in the upper sciences.

Quick delivery
This book is one we needed for school this year. We have enjoyed the easy layout of the book and the experiments are actually doable. We have been able to do all the activities with very little prep. We would like to see a little more from the evaluation tools. The What do you remember and journaling questions are not a good fit for the boys in our class, although it is perfect for the girls. This product shipped very quickly and arrived before we expected. We will use more of this curriculum in the future.

We love it comes from a creation perspective
Very sound science. We love it comes from a creation perspective. My kids really love reading these chapters. They are written in a very engaging way. We have not had a chance yet to do any of the projects. There are a lot of really neat projects.
