All in all, Cannibal may be the album that detractors and fans alike have been waiting for, the one that proves that Static means to take us on a longer and more interesting journey than we could have ever imagined. Punishing sound and faster vocals make this a classic.

Don't stay so hung up on WDT!
This cd flat out rocks!They have delivered a cd of tunes that do not let up and some people still complain.I agree with the reviewer that said he felt sad for them because no matter what they do people still gripe about it.This cd is excellent and easily stands up to WDT to me.I actually have liked every cd they have made,they all had something to offer.I just wish all these bands would quit putting different bonus tracks on like 3 cd's.I have the regular version with no bonus tracks,I am not going to buy this cd 3 times to get a couple of songs.The online version has the song Get up and boogie and Bestbuy has Light it up and I'm the one remix and itunes has the bonus track beneath between and beyond.This is ridiculous and I am sure the band had no say in it but it still stinks.This cd is fast and full of catchy songs with chaotic solos.Buy it,whichever one you can get your hands on.

Best X yet
A lot of great albums came out in 2007, and the ones I expected to love the most, sadly don't compare to Static-X's brutal return to form (well it's not so much a return as it is where they should be at by now). The songs are short and fast. The kind of intensity that made their debut so memorable. I can listen to this again and again.If you need to get your adrenaline pumping, look no further. If you've never tried Static X this should make you a fan.

Alright, but not up to my standard for Static-X
I'm pretty much a Static-X zealot, and this album will see heavy rotation with the rest of my Static-X collection. Unfortunately, in one word, Cannibal is GENERIC. While it is very listenable, it is a pretty mediocre effort from a band from whom I've come to expect great albums. I can't chose a favorite album out of the first 3, nor can I chose a favorite song from any of those albums. The thing stands out from WDT, Machine, and Shadow Zone is that they all have GREAT flow from the first song to the last. All the songs sound like they were meant to be on that album in the exact order Static-X placed them. Start a War was a good album that I like overall, but it lost the flow of the first 3, and I definitely have a favorite song from that album, "Just In Case", which is sad to me.Back to Cannibal, I've listened to the entire album five times now since I received it last Friday, and all the tracks are worth listening too, which is a good thing. However, I can't recommend this album to Static-X newcomers as it is not representative of the Static-X sound. It sounds like a producer told them they were missing energy so they "amped" up the heavy sound and in the process joined the masses of mediocre heavy bands, forgetting that they are Static-X the band which defies labels. I've enjoyed how each of the first 4 Static-X albums had a separate sound while retaining the Static-X sound. Sadly Cannibal is a departure from that.

Reptile! Reptile! Reptile! They get down to what's most important in making good listenable cds. They aren't gonna talk down to you. They maintain the proper attitude, regardless of what life or death brings their way.

But I liked that and after 2 listenings to Canibal
My first Static X cd. The screaming vocals were a bit much at first. It reminded me of Hellyeah when the singer goes crazy with the primal scream/singing. But I liked that and after 2 listenings to Canibal, It is one of my favorite heavy metal cd's. I plan on buying more Static X.

if you ever wished that static-x were more metal and less nu-metal, then this album is for you. the return of Koichi Fukuda makes all the difference in the world. excellent guitar work. the colored vinyl is a nice touch. this is not as trancey as wisconsin death trip. this is a new standard by which other static albums may be measured. their first album is still my favorite, but this may be my second.

One of Static'X's better albums. Some of the tracks work even better in a live situation, as witnessed on the "Cannibal Killers" DVD.

Musikalische Umorientierung und trotzdem gut
Den musikalischen Werdegang von Static-X habe ich für mich persönlich in 3 Epochen kategorisiert.1. Epoche - Neue Band mit neuem Sound, Etablierung im Genre. In diese Epoche fallen die Alben "Wisconsin death trip" und "Machine".2. Epoche - Static-X ist nun schon ziemlich bekannt, die Musik wirkt ausgefeilter und reifer. Hierzu gehören die für mich beiden besten Alben "Shadow zone" und "Start a war".Und die dritte Epoche wurde schließlich von "Cannibal" eingeläutet und von "Cult of Static" konsequent weitergeführt. Musikalische Umorientierung schien die Devise zu sein. Der Synthesizer wird noch viel stärker beansprucht als früher und auch insgesamt klingt das ganze Setting irgendwie elektronischer. Weil ich ein Freund bin von harter Gitarrenmusik hat mir das zunächst gar nicht gut gefallen. Auch scheint die Band plötzlich herausgefunden zu haben, dass man Soli in Lieder einbauen kann - zunächst auch mal ungewohnt. Und bis heute stellt sich mir die Frage weswegen kein Song die 4-Minuten-Marke erreicht.Aber weil ich jedem Album eine faire Chance geben möchte, habe ich immer wieder in die letzten beiden Werke reingehört - und meinen Gefallen daran gefunden. Also darf man entweder nicht wie ich den Fehler machen und die beiden Alben mit ihren Vorgängern vergleichen. Oder man muss einfach mal häufiger reinhören bevor sich die Melodien wirklich im Hirn manifestiert haben. Ob so oder so - Kaufen lohnt.
