On the run from the dungeons of the medieval city of Aquila, thief Phillipe Gaston is helped by Etienne Navarre (Rutger Hauer), a mysterious knight who carries a precious hawk on his arm and is also pursued by the soldiers of Aquila. Two years ago, Navarre and his lover Lady Isabeau were banished from the city and placed under a spell which turns him into a wolf by night and her into a hawk by day, leaving them only a few brief moments to spend together at dawn and sunset. Now, Navarre tries to persuade Phillipe to help him and Isabeau re-enter the city and confront the evil Bishop who, out of his lust for Isabeau, cast the jealous spell which keeps the two lovers apart. Phillipe agrees, but the path to the Bishop is a heavily guarded one, and it will take great courage to follow this mission through to the end. Review: Perfect Couple Movie! - Fantasy? Love? Synth Music? Revenge? One hell of a good time? ABSOLUTELY! Was in love with this movie as a kid! I recently learned my boyfriend had never seen it before, and he absolutely fell in love with it and cried at the ending! One of the most beautiful love stories that’s ever hit the screen, and Michelle Pfeiffer is as stunning as ever! Review: OUTSTANDING PRODUCT AND SELLER! - BLU-RAY REVIEW: I will split this review into 3 sections - seller, actual movie and (most importantly) this version / transfer of the Blu-Ray: 1) Seller - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Shipped from Honk Kong for only $3.99 and it arrived in 5 days. I purchased this from "Far East Flea Market" - that becomes very relevant when you get to the "version / transfer" section. I will definitely be looking for other items from this seller. In fact - I've already ordered a second copy of Ladyhawke from them. 2) I won't spend a lot of time here as I figure if you are looking for / at the movie you are already a fan. Suffice it to say I saw it 6 times when it was released and I bought the VHS, then the Laserdisc and then the DVD as soon as they were released and have hunted forever for the Blu-Ray. This is one of my all-time favourite movies and I consider it to me Michelle Pfeiffer's best role. (Right up there with Batman Returns and Grease 2....ok, so I've had odd tastes.) If you haven't seen it - buy it or rent it now! (And I forget that Rutger Hauer can actually be handsome and charming. Matthew Broderick's accent is a bit weird - but he still brings such life and wit to his character you end of forgetting about the accent.) 3) Now the important part: Version / Transfer. This is where Far East Flea Market comes in. There are many versions of this movie listed for Blu-Ray in various formats and regions by various sellers. The version from Far East Flea Market is NTSC and non-region coded (technically the packaging lists regions A, B & C). That's the one you need in the US. Nothing in the description or on the packaging says anything regarding it being "Digitally Remastered" but after watching it on a 70" Mitsubishi DLP HD TV and a 50" plasma I'd say this is as good, if not better, than all the movies from that era being released and touted as "Digitally Remastered". The picture is sharp and the sound is great. Now - I am by NO means an audiophile expert - but these are the VERY nit-picky things I noticed. I'd have to go back and watch my DVD or Laserdisc to see if the same holds true there. A few of the outdoor daytime scenes seem ever so slightly washed out. However, that may be because so much of the movie (both daytime and nighttime and especially dusk) pop like they were recorded originally in HD in the last couple of years. Some of the outdoor vistas even rival some of the National Geographic and Discovery Channel HD recordings. Keep in mind - this was filmed in 1985. I was amazed and pleasantly surprised by the sharpness, crispness and colour of the transfer. The soldiers' red capes and the landscapes and Michele's blue eyes POP!. And I had forgotten just how rich and majestic Goliath is. His blackness gleams and the details of his main and tail really stand out. The sound has incredible stereo separation. It's one of my all-time favourite scores - plus I'm a huge fan of Alan Parsons. The more melodic pieces with the dialogue are just breathtaking. The action sequences with the more upbeat score seems a little muddled at times as it seems the majority of everything is sent to the center channel for some reason. Same thing with the kick drum - it seems to only go to the center channel and also seems a little flat. I didn't notice the deep subwoofer rumble as much as on a "modern" movie. I thought maybe it was just me and kept telling myself that this was a movie from 1985 - but the 30 second clip at the end where the eclipse occurs is mixed PERFECTLY and the entire room resonated like a modern movie theater. Again - let me reinforce that I am NOT saying there are any problems whatsoever with this transfer. And I state again that in my opinion this is as good as if not better than nearly every 70's / 80's movie I've purchased on Blu-Ray that touts being "Digitally Remastered." If you are a fan od this movie - in my humble opinion this is the version you want to add to your collection. HUGE THANKS to Far East Flea Market for making this available and for having the correct description! If you are a fan of this move - or even curious - rush out and buy it from them IMMEDIATELY and don't get stuck with one of the Italian or poor transfer versions I've read about in other reviews. Thanks!

Please don't let the musical score of this movie scare you off! !
If you like romance, action, some comedy, starcrossed lovers and seeing the underdog win against corruption. Then LadyHawke is a movie that you'll like. The story revolves around three characters. Navarre he's the captain of the guard for the church played by Rutger Hauer Ysabeau who is a young lady at the time played by Michelle Pfeiffer . Whose beauty apparently is beyond compare. She and Hauer's character become involved and fall for each other. However, there is a corrupt bishop who becomes enraged with jealousy that he cannot have her. For obvious reasons, so in his jealousy, he has a curse laid upon them by night. He will be a beautiful black wolf while she is a woman by day though he is a man she comes a beautiful bird of prey of hawk. And this is how they have had to live because of one man jealousy. Leaving notes for the other define never being able to see each other, or touch each other. Believing he has nothing to lose. The captain decides that he needs to go kill the one who cursed them, hoping that will fix it. Since he's no longer the captain of the guard. He has to find a way to get into the city on the Downlow because of course if he spotted those in charge have ordered that he be killed on site so Incomes Matthew Broderick's character Philippe the mouse. A man who he himself when he still was the captain of the guard had chased around the city. Never being able to catch them. Hence the nickname the mouse. After learning of their plight and some other things that you'll just have to watch and find out the mouse and someone from their past who feels responsible for their current predicament as it was his fault. Ysabeau was brought to the attention of the corrupted one. They both try to convince the tormented couple that killing their enemy will not in their torment. That there are other ways. So you get to watch the movie of their adventure in undoing accursed rock by one man's jealousy if they can. :-) And bring justice for the wrong that he committed against them for coveting something, he had no business wanting. This is like a slightly more adult themed version of the Princess bride to me. That's how I've always looked at it. That's my opinion. I actually at one point owned the book because some of the dialogue for Philippe. The mouse was hilarious. I just loved his characters personality. I will say fair warning. The only downside that I've ever found this movie is whoever did the musical score. It doesn't really fit the mood location or time period of the movie to me… However, that's my personal opinion. Like I said LadyHawke is a starcrossed lovers romance type Robin Hood made Marion sort of thing a magical fairytale, a Soulmates, but some of the musical score is Flash Gordon esk. I only mention it because recently I showed the movie to a friend. And was informed that they had never finish watching the movie because of the musical score. It didn't seem like the type of movie that it actually is. So that's why making a point to do this review and say please give the movie a chance if you like Princess bride/Robin Hood movies and magic

Flawed Masterpiece
Such a terrific movie with a terrific cast and mismatched soundtrack… Matthew Broderick and the late, great Leo McKern play endearing characters who carry this movie with great acting and humorous lines… (From memory) MB: I’ve brought you this wounded hawk. LM: Great! We’ll dine together! MB: NO! We cannot eat this bird!!! LM: Oh God, is it Lent already?!? While the special effects, if you can call them that, are primitive even for their time, the cinematography and the lighting (both day and night) are, I believe, Oscar-worthy. The story and script are strong with fine performances also given by Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, and John Wood, especially toward the end when things get very dramatic and they show their undisputed talent. Even the animals are well trained. Goliath the horse is very impressive. But…each time galloping ensues and we hear Alan Parson’s synthesized electronic music, so out of place for a medieval story setting, one feels as if one is viewing a bad, made-for-TV movie. I need to say that Alan Parsons, who can be briefly viewed in Get Back as an engineer at Abby Road Studios (Beatles), is a highly skilled and credited composer and musician with lots of fans, but in my humble opinion his genre just doesn’t work here. All in all, it’s worth owning a copy of this film, and the Blu-Ray is finely tuned with a sharp picture, though there are hardly any extras of which to speak.

Beautiful film
I fell in love with this film the first time I saw it. A medieval romantic fantasy with good fight sequences, great dialogue (and monologues), really bad bad guys, dedicated good guys, a love story, and magic. There are beautiful scenes, like a hawk flying low over a lake, dipping the tips of its wings into the water a few times before climbing up to glide away. If I'm feeling down, having a bad day, I'll watch Ladyhawke to lighten my mood. I won't try to recap the plot, you can find that elsewhere; but check it out, it's worth at least one viewing.

Magical and enchanting.
Along with "Willow", this film "Ladyhawke" was the best fantasy film of the 1980's. Well acted, directed, filmed and written, "Ladyhawke" served up action, romance, comedy and dark magic in equal amounts. A small time thief, played by Matthew Broderick, escapes from a terrible prison only to meet up with a mysterious, itinerant knight played by Rutger Hauer and a beautiful young maiden he only sees by night (Michelle Pfiefer). In time, Phillipe "the mouse" finds that Navarre the knight and Isebeau the maiden have been cursed by a dark magic by an evil bishop. The young lovers are under a terrible spell wherein the knight is a man by day and a wolf by night and the young maiden is a hawk by day and beautiful young woman by night - always together, yet always kept apart in human form. Only a disgraced monk, played by Leo McKern has the answer to break the spell. It's a marvelous story that satisfies at many levels, for fans of different type films as the comedy of Broderick, the dramatic action-adventure of Rutger Hauer and the romance represented by Pfeiffer blend together in a seamless and rarely achieved whole. Each character provides something to the viewer as well as the other characters in this wonderful film. Really, the only thing that hasn't stood the test of time well is the music, which is very "80's" and seems out of place in this type of film. None the less, this is an excellent film that anyone of any age should find magical and enchanting...in a good way!
