Very vigorous and very much alive
This was my first attempt at growing tempeh, and I was unsure what to expect. The tempeh lore said once the batch is started, it takes about 30 hours to reach its peak and be finished. Wow - I was amazed at how vigorous this strain of rhizopus really is. This was the best price and value I could find on the internet for tempeh culture, and I very highly recommend this product. The picture shows the tempeh I made getting cooked for dinner, about 48 hours after I started the batch. It's very much alive.

CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65 WARNING
Alert to buyers- there is a California prop 65 warning on the product packaging when it arrives, BUT IT IS NOT in the product page description nor on the product photo!The warning might be on there from a slight issue or not, but the seller never replied from my message at least a week after I sent a message trying to return it.I never opened anything and I get it that it's not returnable because it's food related, but some sort of dialogue about my issue could have been addressed.

Koji, not Rhizopus!!!!
This is not Rhizopus, just normal Koji. I have been growing this for weeks now. When I grow it, there is absolutely no smell coming from the beans - soy or chickpeas.When you make tempeh, there should be a nutty smell and flavor after cooking. It is a very strong fragrance. This product is not as described and is not Rhizopus at all...Beware buyer! It is a big bag of koji spores, but still useful if you ferment that which I do)!
