Would this be able to control the secondary load at 1A @240vac or is that too much for the unit?

Yes, this current switch is able to control the secondary load at 1A @240vac. In 240V circuit, only one 120V hot line is connected. Also, if the current being meaured is less than 1A, loop the wire through the sensor coil to incease the current field. Cross-core current = actual current X number of loops around sensor coil e.g. If the current draw from the measured device is 0.5 amp, then loop the wire around the sensor coil 3 times and it will produce 1.5A current.

I’m an electrician and installed this at my home. Installed at prescribed and my fan turns off and on intermittently as drying is on. Faulty?

I believe that your current sensor is working properly. What I suspect may be happening is that your dryer heating elements are turning on and off to maintain a regulated dryer temperature. When power to the elements is temporarily turned off, only the dryer motor is drawing current which is likely less than 1 amp, the minimum current needed to activate the current sensor output. That's when your inline motor is turning off and turns back on when the heating elements are turned on again. The solution is to coil several turns of wire around the current sensor, passing each turn through the hole in the sensor. This will increase the sensing current by the number of amp-turns of wire you are exposing to the sensor. This should increase the current that the sensor senses to more than 1 amp (1/6 HP motor would draw 500ma at 240 vac so 3 turns of wire x 500ma/turn should easily exceed 1 amp of sensed current at all times).
