read at last
I have intended to read War and Peace for many years, but never got round to it. Now I have and am very glad. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the philosophy near the end less so.

This is NOT the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation
Despite the suggestion in the "About the author" paragraph, this is a translation by an entirely different pair.

War and Peace (Vintage Classics) (REVIEW)
Through trial and error, I've rediscovered that nothing sold on the Amazon platform that I've ordered thus far has been unfulfilling. This statement is particularly true for the books and literature. When going through amazon for reading literature, it's not as robust a process as going to a book store or a library, but it's manageable if you have good idea of what you want based on previous likes and affinities; however, if you have no idea what you want, its probably better to go to a location were you can explore first before making up your mind. The item arrived within the shipping window forecasted by the Amazon, and arrived in good condition. Furthermore, testimonial includes, " War and Peace (Vintage Classics) is not just a novel—it’s an entire world. Leo Tolstoy delivers an extraordinary blend of historical fiction, philosophical reflection, and deeply personal human stories set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars. This edition presents the text in a clean, readable format that makes engaging with this massive work more approachable. The novel’s greatest strength lies in its scope. Tolstoy moves effortlessly between intimate family dramas and sweeping battle scenes, capturing both the chaos of war and the quiet struggles of everyday life. The characters—especially Pierre, Natasha, and Andrei—are richly developed and evolve in meaningful, believable ways over the course of the story. Beyond the narrative, the book offers profound reflections on fate, free will, history, and human purpose. At times, the philosophical sections can feel dense, but they add depth and elevate the novel beyond traditional historical fiction. This Vintage Classics edition is well-produced, with a readable typeface and durable construction, making it suitable for such a lengthy and demanding book. It’s the kind of volume that becomes a long-term companion rather than a quick read. Pros: Epic storytelling with unforgettable characters Deep philosophical and historical insights Seamless blend of war narrative and personal drama High-quality, readable Vintage Classics edition Immersive and rewarding literary experience Cons: Extremely long and demanding read Philosophical sections may feel slow for some readers Requires patience and sustained attention Overall, War and Peace is a once-in-a-lifetime reading experience. It is challenging, profound, and ultimately deeply rewarding—an essential work for anyone serious about classic literature." PS -all in all, an enjoyable purchasing experience P.W.W
