12mm to 45 mm Olympus 4.0 or 12mm to 35mm 2.8??

I have the Olympus 12-45 and 12-40, the former appears to be exactly the same sharpness as the 12-40 and is a fair bit lighter and more compact. The extra 10mm (20mm) will make a big difference over the Pany. I've never had an issue with it being a constant f4.0, let's face it, the IS makes a big difference and I rarely shoot indoors or need to achieve very shallow depths of field. The only other difference is the MF clutch but then I'm usually shooting using autofocus. I also have the Pany 12-32 which I rarely use, the minimum length is pretty apparent. I use the 12-45 on my EM5 and I also have the 12-100 on my EM1, if I want to go really light with the EM1 I use the 12-45 and it makes for a very light set up. Appreciate the Pany is a good lens and is only a bit more heavy. So far the 12-45 has been an excellent lens as is the 12-40, the latter has not been been used since I bought the smaller one which speaks volumes. No hesitation in recommending it and I've never had a bad Olympus product in 10 years.

can you manually focus this lens without going into the menu?

Yes you can. There is a manual focus ring on the lens. Just assign an FN button on the camera to turn on manual focus. Press it to M/F and press it again to resume A/F. Dave
