Got this for a four year old while it was on sale for $20. The average price of this item seems to hover around $40 and for that amount I think you could look elsewhere. The scope itself is all plastic, the LED light mechanism is pretty flimsy, and the focusing the scope, while not impossible, isn't the easiest and if a toddler is using it they may need help since some of the slides take some exact dialing to see.Overall, if you can find this for $20 and it's for a child whose just looking for some fun then this kit will work great as you don't care what they do to the device. If this kit is supposed to goto a kid whose taking a topic seriously where they need a real microscope then you'd help yourself by buying a much nicer scope.

This is a first time microscope for my 8 year old. She loves it and is fascinated by it. It came with some beginner items like slides, petri dish, scalpel, etc. to spark their interest. However the tweezers are huge, plastic and useless for small items. The microscope magnifies pretty well but it's hard to get things to magnify at the 1200X. Also, we tried to hatch the brine shrimp and they didn't hatch. We think the eggs may have been too old. The booklet says they won't hatch if over 5 years old. Oh well. We still have had plenty of fun checking out leaves and such. I can see that we will have to buy a better one in a year or 2 as my daughter gets older. For the price this works for now just fine.

Works like a charm and love how easy to use

Bought this for my nephew and he LOVES it! It has so many pieces and gadgets that he can use to make his own slides it seems like he is always finding stuff to look at with his microscope. Great product for a great price!
