I would give the product 4 stars. However the overall score for me is discounted when weighing in the company's lacking of a widely supported product guarantee.When purchasing from Amazon if the sell is done through an Amazon partner your warrantee is not valid. Manfrotto's product guarantee removes itself from any responsibility in repair work. In my case the tripod O-rings began to fail after 5 months. Rather than shipping me a few cheap rubber rings they wanted me to ship my tripod to them and pay for the shipping and repair. Feels slimy and I feel the company is not committed to its product.If you are not worried about this then consider my review of the ballhead itself a 5 star review. I know to some this could seem somewhat petty but a 300+ dollar tripod is a big investment to not get any kind of warrantee on. Either have a warranty and standby your product or don't and set those expectations up front. Don't put fine print to weasel out. It just makes the brand look bad.[Update] Amazon is a wonderful company and have corrected this issue for me. I will be looking for alternative tripod/ballhead solutions with a more widely supported product guarantee.

Great Bullhead. The best feature is the friction adjustment. The reason this product did not get 5* was because the first one arrived with an obvious factory defect that should never have left Gitzo. I own several Gitzo tripods & heads and this is the first one that had an obvious factory defect. The replacement arrived LONG after the period of time I had planned to use it (holiday vacation).

You can never go wrong with Gitzo.

Fantastic ball head, I'm using this with a Gitzo GT1542T traveller tripod. The head that comes with the kit for this is slightly smaller so paid a little extra to purchase this slightly larger ballhead separately. No problems at all with folding into the legs of the tripod for carry.This head is solid as a rock and has a fair bit of weight to it. Controls are nice and buttery smooth and built to a high standard as you would expect from Gitzo. The design is beautiful and nicely compliments the traveler series tripods. The friction control works great for controlling how smooth or firm you want the ballhead to respond to movement. One gripe is that it's very easy to rotate the friction wheel so if you unknowingly rotate it all the way to the left then just slightly undo the locking wheel then your camera might drop down with a mighty thud!I wouldn't hesitate to use this with heavy telephoto lenses. It's small size seems very unassuming but it can take the weight no problem.
