It should be clarified that this is NOT "your grandmother's handbook".This book is mostly for scholars, such as engineering students, to use as a reference. Many terms are well explained, but it is definitely not a novice's, or even beginner's firs bino book. If you really want to know more about the science behind the instrument, go for it. Otherwise, buy a simpler book and save the extra money for a better quality bino. Great book, written by professional scholars, yet in clear and (relatively) simple terms. Unless you're on the level of a New-Yorker Magazine reading amoeba who thinks it's the greatest intellectual since Maya Angelou, your head won't explode from the math.

Full of background and facts and figures of binoculars and scopes. Very useful.
