Doctor Who: Character Encyclopedia

This book is perfect for every Doctor Who fan. It's packed with heaps of information about each monster, villain, companion and people the doctor has come across on his travels. I will be using the Daleks as an example. With brilliant pictures and information about their home world, special abilities and appearances over the years. Although I would like it more if there was some basic information about what episodes the Daleks are infamous for, every bit of important knowledge you need is there. There are 203 well written pages and some great lab led pictures. The quality of the book is not great as I have had it for about a month now and the spine of the book is broken but I think that is due to the amount of times I have read it. As far as I'm concerned there are no great characters missing form the vast selection but the book only goes up to Matt Smith or the 11th doctor so characters featured in the 12th doctors episodes and non-existent. But that is to be expected.I truly recommend this book and maybe even a Tardis backpack to complete the package.

I got this as an almost consolation prize to my younger child because the older one got the 10th Doctor's sonic. Well this book was a real hit with both kids. What a great companion to have on the table while watching Doctor Who! The series has so much context in the 50-years of history, you really get value looking things up, learning about the history of characters and how it calls back to seasons past. We just watched the 10th doctor battle the Sontarans and we could see that they have a rich history.An excellent companion - lots of pictures for kids. Everyone's there. Be careful about spoilers, but that hasn't been a problem, other than my 10-year-old *insisting* on telling me how each Doctor regenerated and why...

I bought this book to bring it to a local Doctor Who convention and use it to get autographs. What I ended up getting was a lot better.This book sums up just about every character on the show - doctors, companions, monsters, and even most day characters - in one page, and gives a lot of detail. What made me especially happy was the inclusion of Classic Who Doctors and companions, unlike some other Doctor Who merchandise I've come across, which was lucky for me, considering how much I've been coveting Daphne Ashbrook and Katy Manning's autographs.All in all, it's a great gift for Whovians, new and old, especially considering the decent price.

I am a huge Doctor Who fan, but I don't think I can consider myself a Whovian only because my knowledge of this series is so limited. Hence the purchase of this book. And from what I can tell, this book has it all. Everything from all 11 Doctors to Doctor Who's granddaughter Susan Foreman to the new companion Clara "Oswin" Oswald. I really like the glossy hardcover with text in a shiny metallic silver and the page layout which looks clean and simple. There is tons of color, the pictures don't seem to have any visible upscaling and look detailed and sharp. There are even sections on each page to show which Doctor encountered said Alien/Monster/baddie. If you are a hardcore Whovian there probably isn't much information in this book that you don't already know. But the super low price and great quality would make a great addition to any Whovian's collection of any and all things Doctor Who related. I am loving this book and you may too. FULLY APPROVED.

This book impressed me greatly! I was expecting it to merely have all the new era Doctor Who characters but I was VERY pleased to see this included even the Classic Who characters, companions, Doctors and monsters!The book is simple and informative and covers a vast majority of characters up to early series 7! Every page is bright and full color. There's info on who each character is and how they are related to the Doctor or the Whoniverse.Definitely a great buy for any long time Whovian or even new members into the fandom. Have new friends just discovering Doctor Who and wondering who in the universe everyone is? Hand them this book. It's like a spotter's guide for every series.

This book is a nice size, not too bulky. Great page layouts with clear photos & useful information in similar format on all pages. Characters are helpfully colour coded by type: Time Lord, human, humanoid, robot etc etc. As a fan of the new series I enjoyed reading about the characters and companions from the "old" show, (Doctors 1-8), it's actually why I got the book. There is a good balance of old and new characters.Sometimes the character bios seem a bit off-topic or miss out on important aspects of the characters. Martha's entry, for instance, seemed to focus mostly on her feelings for the Doctor instead of the Osterhagen Key, her walking across the world etc. Some entries could have been more concise. There are definitely many spoilers about important events relating to certain characters, which may bother some people. There are some characters that are not in this book, mostly because their parts were too small to merit a full page entry, but it would have been nice to have at least a short explanation/definition of who they were. That's the only thing keeping this book back from really being an "encyclopedia."Overall, it's a great buy, definitely worth it for new and old fans alike. I learned a lot and am glad to add it to my library.

This colorful encyclopedia is amazing. I first heard of it when my cousin (the same one from at least one of my other reviews) bought it while on vacation. It has an entry on characters old and new and is very informative if a little outdated due mostly to the fact that it does not include the most recently introduced characters and certainly includes neither the 12th doctor nor the war doctor due to its publication date. It also doesn't include too many details on Clara Oswald. Despite these shortcomings it is a book that I was quite happy to add to my collection.
