This book is informative and clear. Some of the information is dated but basic concepts are explained. Also includes CD

It explained basic real estate concepts in depth, but it went even further. Quite useful especially for Argus users ( Kahr was the initiator of Argus Software). You should supplement it with a real estate financing book, such as Bruggeman's "Real Estate Finance and Investment", which I highly recommend.

Book for students.

I am an avid reader of investment books, especially real estate. I work in the real estate field in an investment capacity and I am always on the look out for new books on the topic of real estate investing. This book is simply not very good. There is not a lot of detail in any of the chapters, its very short on financial analysis and I don't find it written well. I have found myself reading 5 pages and saying what the hell is this guy saying and waiting for his point or gem but it never happens. This book is way overpriced for what it is, this should be a clearance special for 5.99. The real estate game by poorvu is hands down a much better book, not even a competition, save your money and get that book. Flat out this book stinks... Not to detract from the author, I hear he has great excel and argus classes, I would have figured he would have put that into his book.

This book deserves a higher valuation. Well structured. Well balanced about dellivering concepts and examples...here in Brazil we can't count on these quality books...

As someone who knows Prof Kahr's work, both in-print and in-person, it is a pleasure to praise this text for its clarity and practicality.

I am recently developing software for real estate market analysis and this book has been of great help for me, in fact it has given me the foundations for this development. Whether you are an entrepreneur on real estate or just want to learn about it, I definitely recommend this book (very practical approach).

While this book makes some very good points concerning generalities in performing real estate market analysis, it did not offer clarification on the specific process of performing market analysis on multiple property types. Some sections are better than others. For instance, although the book notes that Office and Industrial makes up 62% of the commercial real estate market, it doesn't explain how to conduct a specific demand anlaysis for these property types. You would think office and industrial properties would be addressed seperately, but the book groups the discussion of both property types, noting that the trend is toward combining the uses. Also, everything is explained with development projects in mind, rather than from the perspective of purchasing existing real estate assets. Basically the book is mostly fluff with little substance or explanation of how to gather and analyze the appropriate data.

To help me in assessing collateral values in distressed loans
