You get what you pay for
I purchased this machine based mostly on price because I have a very limited budget for my new leather crafting hobby. I read all the reviews and was prepared to have my husband tinker with it and make sure everything was adjusted as it should be. He is a curious being and always wants to know how things work and why they do what they do so I figured this would be perfect for him to figure out based on the poor reviews about a few parts of this machine. I had low expectations to begin with, I basically wanted something to use with my hole punches that was easier on the hands and quieter on the ears. Once we figured it all out, this has been perfect. I am even able to put my snap setters and rivet setting into the chuck and use this to set snaps and rivets which I must admit, greatly added to my enjoyment using this machine because I sucked setting them by just hammering the snot out of them! Yes, there are things you must figure out about adjusting the raising and lowering of the shaft thing, but once you do, well, it pretty much does exactly what it is supposed to. If you are not good at figuring things out like that, then go with one of the other items that are more expensive, you do get what you pay for. Overall, I am quite satisfied, but budget did not take a big hit and I was able to purchase some other supplies that I needed for my new hobby. I hope this review helps those of you on the fence about this item.

Works but appears used, missing bolts on plate
The media could not be loaded. I purchased this new and what I got looks used and missing 2 bolts. The press where you attach the drill chuck also does not line up with the hole on the plate. It’s too far back. It functions well with modifications, however when you purchase something new you expect new and all the parts to be there. It will get the job done for what I need, but I will never purchase again nor would I recommend this particular one or seller to anyone. In the end you get what you pay for I suppose.

No instructions
Set up is a bit confusing at first since it doesn't come with an instruction sheet

Fast shipping, tool is easy to use and very sturdy
I get clean precise, even stamps with this tool, I make custom knife sheaths for the blades I forge and I am regretting not buying one of these years ago. I had zero issues setting the tool up, getting even stamps, or adjusting the height of the chuck. It even grips hard enough that I could use square leather lacing punches to get the sheaths stitched together. 10/10 especially for the price.

Very solid piece for a hobbyist.
This thing it STURDY.I think it weighs more than my desk.If I could, I'd mark it down half a star because the grip of the horizontal arm to the vertical shaft is too tight. There are instructions to jam a screwdriver in there and loosen it, but even with that it's very hard to adjust vertically. Given the choice between rounding up and rounding down, I chose to round up. It's a minor inconvenience (especially since it won't be adjusted very often).Once I got it set in place, it was absolutely perfect. The chuck is solid and well made and came in a separate box within the main package along with the chuck key. There is a threaded shaft that the chuck screws on to that then fits in a machined hole in the piston and is held in place with a set screw. It has a very low-tech but serviceable depth adjustment (just a pair of inverted machine screws) that you can adjust to alter the "throw" of the piston. There are pre-drilled mounting holes, but I haven't found a need to mount it (did I mention that it's HEAVY - that's a plus in this regard).I've been making a custom leather purse for a beloved aunt who had been supportive of me through a rough time and this thing has sped up the punching by a factor of at least 10 times.I've got some rivets to set as well, and the rivet setters will fit in the chuck easily enough - with the addition of a small (4"x4"x1/8") metal plate I can use this as a rivet setter as well.I got the plate for the asking from a local sheet metal shop (although I'm gonna take them a batch of chili tomorrow).I can't speak to its utility in a professional setting, but you won't go wrong with this thing as a hobbyist.

Original packaging was damaged, loose parts inside
There are no instructions on how the press works. The press appears to be locked on bolted closed. The top of the shafted is damaged where it poked through the box. I plan to return it.

Functional, needs some work to be great
Spline was very rough and caked with dirt, had to clean it out and hone off burrs. Also had to hone burrs off keyway and the teeth on the quill, then apply some light grease to all the moving faces. Needed to remove paint from the stroke limiter screws in order to be able to adjust them. Noteworthy galvanic corrosion on the screw holding the spline on. Once cleaned up it moves smoothly and does the job, but I feel much more care could have been taken by the manufacturer.
