Sam Scheinberg, the inventor of the SAM splint, probably didn't realize that he was creating a whole new category in first aid supplies at the time. There are many companies that have copied this product, many of them are pretty decent quality. But I prefer to stick with the original SAM Splint. If you're unaware, the SAM splint is a reusable splint made of aluminum with a foam pad attached to it. It is highly flexible, easily moldable into custom shapes, and surprisingly rigid. It also is available in a variety of sizes to match the phone being splinted. Because it's aluminum, it is extremely lightweight, and you can stick several of them even in a fairly small first aid kit. I keep three different sizes in my big kit, and extra finger splints and rolled splints in my smaller kit. This one is extremely compact because of its flat nature. It doesn't take up the amount of space in a kit that the rolled version does and can easily fit under other supplies. Despite this, it is extremely versatile and every bit the equal of its more bulky cousin. No first aider should be without a couple of these things, and while the ability to improvise an appropriate splint is still an essential skill, having one of these on hand is still extremely useful.

After walking over a 100,000 miles on trails around the world, I have had a few mishaps. This just helps me be prepared in case the worst should happen to me or my dog.

I am not happy because the description for the splint did not say "junior". Then when I returned them the credited my account for three and not 4 as I had purchased. Still trying to get the order fixed.
