Great Picture quality and customer service
Got this last year after a lot of research and focus on the negative reviews, so had some idea of pros and cons and limitations going in. Getting the picture to fit on the screen was a challenge, had to buy furniture that was only 12" from surface to floor. The grid with the corner handles is your friend for fine adjustments. Picture quality is very good, brightness and black levels are really good (I have a Samsung HDTV and this projector beats that all the way on black levels, not quite OLED TV level black colors but still really good). The interface and app support are klunky but manageable. I use a Roku for streaming so all my remote use is on the Roku, I only use the device remote to turn it on. If you don't get 4K quality check your connection speed (if it's not fast enough you can't even choose the HDR modes - they are grayed out). I use the browser in the app section to check download speeds. Sound quality from the built in speakers is also very good. They missed some design cues - the legend/symbols over the LED lights on the device are impossible to make out. But after all of that, it was really delivering great picture quality and sound for an immersive experience. Then I downloaded a firmware upgrade and it said applying update and went dark - I had no idea what was going on except one of the LEDs was red. Left it overnight, and tried to restart the following morning and it would not restart. Called customer service and received a bin file (with same upgrade) that I put on a thumb drive and plugged it in to the projector. It still wouldn't work, the LEDs came on and flashed and then went to steady red. Sent it to them and they said the equivalent of the motherboard was not working. So I am getting a new projector now. Kevin Mackie was excellent, courteous and professional in handling my request from start to finish. Can't say enough good things about him. I will update this review once I get the new one and get to enjoy it for a bit longer. 6/19 - Update I have had the new replacement for a while now, really happy with this purchase. The picture is stunning in my set up dark walls, no/very low natural light. I have a purchased a custom made cover as well, you will need that if your projector sits out in the open (costs about $30). 5 stars from me

Poor UX, even more concerning warranty service/costs - frustrating experience
I typically don’t leave reviews, however I felt compelled to leave one for the Optoma Cinemax P2B based on our recent experience and given the price point of this item. The unit itself appears to be comparable to other similar priced UST projectors. Much like others we felt that the user interface and home page extremely lack a friendly user experience and in fact, if it wasn’t for pairing our projector with a Amazon Firestick we would’ve returned the item. Otherwise the picture quality and brightness is great, and the gaming is okay as long as you aren’t playing FPS games (competitively). However, the real shame came for us when our projector stopped working after ~ 5 - 6 times used (casual home use) and missing the Amazon return window by ~ two-weeks after the return window. Working through Optoma’s technical support, they barely troubleshooted our projector, and suggested us to download and load the latest firmware. We tried and this did not resolve the issue. We were then directed to RMA our unit back to Optoma to be repaired. We shipped today and Optoma’s warranty service requires the owner to pay incoming shipping, which cost us ~ $187 to ship ground. This is VERY frustrating given I paid $2,499.99 for the projector, and not even after 6 uses (causal) and less than 60-days the projector fails!!! I’m hoping this is a one off, and that they ensure our projector is fully functioning this time, repaired properly, so I don’t have to incur such ridiculous cost to my unit fixed under warranty. Truly disappointing… Optoma really needs to reconsider their shipping costs to the user/owner of the unit when it is in warranty!

Best projector I've owned optoma p2 = Grand slam
WOW 👏 😮 👏 😮 👏 😮 👏 😮 PICTURE QUALITY IS OUTSTANDING COLORS 10 BIT HDR It was pretty hard to set up, but once I got to the geometric settings and was able to manually configure it, I was good to go. Go to menu arrow over to geometric section and you will figure it out. Gaming good for almost anything like racing, fighting games, Rpgs, adventure games. Fps shooters though, if you got a TV or monitor use that for online pvp but it can be done on this, its a little sluggish nut keep in mind I play on a 120hz gsync monitor for shooters in online pvp. But the gaming experience is pretty good. GREAT BLACK LEVELS, and I have a lg c9 oled so yes this projector has good blacks and I know the difference. My preferred settings for movies Set your streaming device to 4k 30 hz (only way to get 10 bit color) Display mode cinema Color temp cool Dynamic black 1 Color level 10 If your debating optoma p2 vs vava Go with the optoma if you got the extra 500$ Better for gaming Better color wheel Better picture quality Best projector i have owned period.

Upgraded to the Cinemax P2 from a nine year old Benq W1200 and the difference is remarkable! The brightness, colours, contrast, excellent focus uniformity and great HDR image just leap off the screen. So much detail and depth in 4K. HD cable tv is also incredibly sharp and clean. I found it relatively easy to set up as well. Took maybe about 2-3 min to align it perfectly, though I did it by eye and not any internal features. Excellent DLP motion smoothness, even without the need for Frame Interpolation. I’m projecting onto a basic grey screen in a dedicated basement rec room. The P2 is also near silent, another wonderful bonus. All in all I’m beyond thrilled! No worries about anybody walking in front of a ceiling mounted projector, or 4K HDMI issues with long run cables. Excellent warranty too. Highly recommend this OPTOMA!!

Likes: Picture quality Sound Colour Dislikes: Reliability I brought it to my country and used it for three days last year and I was so impressed. Then, I went back almost a year and it wouldn't work properly. After few seconds of switching it on, two LEDS will blink simultaneously and the projector stops working. I have been discussing the issue with a local rep for more than a month now with no clear picture of the solution. I bought the Wemax Nova 4K which works like a charm but not as good as the Optoma P2 IMO. But the Wemax is working and the Optoma is not!

the worst and ridiculous experience I have never had. Just received this P2 machine yesterday, and I quickly found a bright spot as the unit porjecting on the wall. Obviously, this could be something wrong with the lenses inside (broken). Additionally, there is skewed/wavy line on top of the image; regardless how hard I try, the issue persists, and not to mention half of the above image is blurry, apparently can't be focused. As I was trying to return the unit next day, I was told to pay for shiipong; no return label is provided (seriously, Amazon sent something broken to me, and I have to return by paying shipping??) Absolutely stay away from this machine, no worthy even buying, if I can give a minus, definitely minus numerous star.........what a nightmare !!!

After some research, I opted for this one over the VAVA equivalent, and so far I've been fairly impressed. The image quality is excellent and allows us to have the equivalent of a 100 inch screen in the basement media room. The sound quality is okay, but we opted to get a better Bose 700 soundbar anyway. Regardless, in combination with a Roku streaming stick that supports 4K, this setup works quite nicely as a home cinema and does everything we want for movies, shows, and video games.

Without the ALR screen I predicted this Optoma CineMax P2 to the wall, the film looks amazing and impressive quality! Unfortunately, I repackaged and returned it to Amazon for a full refund as the ALR screen costs more money and I give up. Someday, I will definitely purchase again in future.
