Castle Season 4

I love Castle. I came to the show when season 4 was airing on TV but I started out by watching the first season on DVD. I now own seasons 1-4 and season 5 is on order. I ordered season 1 having never seen an episode. I was persuaded to order season 1 by good word of mouth about it and my fondness for Firefly and Serenity, which also starred Nathan Fillion. I fell in love with the show almost immediately. As I have watched the show through 4 seasons it has consistently offered delicious fun. The cast are excellent, especially Stana Katic as Detective Kate Beckett and Nathan Fillion in the title role as Richard Castle. I have to admit that, much like the Richard Castle character, I have become smitten by the Detective Kate Beckett character. And I totally empathize and relate to what Castle goes through as he tries doggedly to win her heart. And I completely understand that she is more than worth all the setbacks he has had to endure in that pursuit. I know I am being manipulated into it but, almost despite myself, I find I am very much rooting for Castle and Beckett to make each other happy. The quality of the character development here is outstanding and Katic and Fillion make us (or at least me) care deeply about their characters. The supporting cast is very good too. Castle has something for almost everyone. There is action, mystery, plot twists, witty dialog, lots of romance, and no small amount of humor. As another reviewer aptly said, everything about this show seems to work. All in all it is loads of fun and I can hardly wait for my season 5 DVD's to arrive.

This is a great crime dramady featuring Nathan Fillion who we all know from Firefly! If you're old enough to remember, I have to liken Castle to a blend of "Moon Lighting", "Columbo", and "Murder She Wrote". I am now officially in mourning however as we're flying through the seasons. My wife and I tend to watch a few episodes a day and before we know it, we'll be caught up and stuck waiting a week for each new episode! ACK!!!! The 30 second gist of the show is that Fillion is a crime writer who gets connected with an attractive detective and manages to convince the mayor (who Castle is friends with) that he should have unrestricted access to follow her around for inspiration. He's also a huge asset to the NYPD with his understanding of criminal behavior etc. Fillion is great and there is lots of comic relief surrounding the central murder plot so it's not a real downer to watch. Season four continues to refine the chemistry between Beckett and Castle and their relationship is always in flux with lots of tension and humor. For the most part, you can jump around between episodes and not watch them in order. It seems that there are usually 4 or 5 episodes in each season that move the greater story arc plot along. The other shows, while equally fantastic, focus elusively on the murder of the day and not Becket or Castle's past. As of the time of this writing, they are into Season 6. We just started watching about a month ago, ripped through season 1,2, & 3 and are now wrapping up 4. Owning them on Amazon is the way to go, commercial free and easy to watch on pretty much any internet connected device, not to mention binge watching multiple episodes back to back makes for nice unwind time after the kids are fast asleep! Long live Castle! :)

Way back in the day, I watched Bruce Willis in Moonlighting and fell in love with the kind of comedy and relationship that now sizzles and pops between Detective Kate Beckett and novelist Richard Castle. Beckett and Castle are two beautiful people with a few scars and flaws that makes them believably human. (Like the play on names, too.) Castle's devotion to his daughter and his relationship with his quirky actress mother add dimension and depth and more ways to have fun in this television series. Kate's strong, by-the-book behavior is the perfect foil for Richard Castle's 12-year-old boyish ways (even though he is WAY past that age and has a daughter older than that.) He has a Peter Pan syndrome that alternates with responsible father, man-about-town, famous writer, and loving son, not to mention a strong and worthy civilian partner for homocide detective -- Kate who has her own closet full of secrets and designer clothing. I came to this series late, but fell hard and fast for this unorthodox crime fighting duo. Just watched an episode from season 4 and can't wait to get my hands on the DVD. Send it Amazon! Send it soon! I have seasons 1-3 and the episodes are definitely re-watchable. Quality production all the way. Great ensemble cast. Can't think of anything that I can find fault with. The humor is perfect, the chemistry just steamy enough and the sweet family relationships are just quirky enough to add spice. The 'family' at the precinct add balance and more pleasure. What can I say, this is one television series that has it all! Romance, suspense, action, adventure,and family! And the dialogue is smart and original. The plot twists fresh and often totally unexpected. A wonderful diversion from the cares of the world with some mystery and mayhem and for us writer types -- a wonderful subplot that explores book writing and funnels into our dreams of someday walking the red carpet for our book signings.

I got hooked on this show a few months ago. Kind of goofy, but still a good crime drama with romantic tension in the air. What more can you ask? I tend to be a TV snob, watching mostly documentaries and movies that have some artistic or social quality. That doesn't mean I'm too good for some basic, fun to watch entertainment, and this does the job. Castle's character is a successful millionaire, but just goofy and vulnerable enough, plus ok looking but not over the top good looking to keep him from seeming somewhat believable. Beckett's character is so good looking, confident, and successful that it's hard to imagine her ever seeing anything in Castle, but the chemistry is undeniable and they use that to tease the viewer into coming back episode after episode and season after season. The plots are, for the most part, original and refreshing, but far enough from reality that you have to just go along and stop reminding yourself that these things would never happen in real life and that nobody would survive the predicaments that confront the characters on each episode. I am former law enforcement and know that none of the things on this should would ever happen, but again ... I don't care. Sometimes you just need to escape reality for an hour or two. One of the real surprises for me has been Susan Sullivan. After watching her as the uptight Kitty Montgomery on Dharma and Greg, I couldn't have imagined her playing any other character. In Castle, she plays Martha - Castle’s whacky mother, who is an over-the-top, past her prime actress, with a multitude of character flaws, but who is nonetheless lovable.

Great show, I never watched this when it was on TV originally, picked it up accidentally in reruns and found it absolutely fascinating. With it running in a repeat Marathon cycle on Lifetime in 2021-22, I've seen nearly every episode covering all 9 seasons. I guess the fact that the 2 main characters Castle and Beckett drive me absolutely crazy many times, with their inability to honestly express their feelings for one another, or to act in ways that are baffling to the other person and to the audience, is a testament to the quality of the writing and the storylines. Still, that aspect of the show both drives me crazy and keeps me coming back for more episodes, rooting for them to get together. I keep watching and waiting for the 'good parts', meaning whenever there is a genuine, positive development in the trajectory of them moving toward a real relationship. There are enough of those to offset the many setbacks where you think they are really going to fall in love and then one of them does something which completely turns off the other one, big time. Great show.

+++Warning, this contains spoilers from the prior season, but no major season four giveaways+++ The fourth season picks up after Beckett is shot and Montgomery is killed. We see that Beckett has undergone extensive surgery, and then takes a three-month leave to recover from her injuries. Much of the season's larger arc deals with Beckett trying to find out who shot her, as well as Castle and Beckett dealing with their feelings for each other. The big addition to the main cast this season is Penny Johnson Jerald (probably best known for the series 24) who plays Captain Victoria Gates. She is not a fan of Castle's "assistance" and generally makes life miserable for everyone. The season ends on another cliffhanger (although not the same as the season three cliffhanger) with the future of Beckett and Castle in the balance. The season has a strong supporting and guest cast including Michael Dorn, Geoff Pierson, Jennifer Beals, Meghan Markle, and Tahmoh Penikett. There is also a mini Firefly reunion as well. For those who get the DVD set, the extras include commentary tracks on selected episodes, bloopers and outtakes, deleted scenes, a feature on the stunts, and a couple of other behind-the-scenes features. A good amount of material for those who like the extras. Overall, the series continues to be strong. The show has a good balance of stand-alone case-of-the-week stories and does a good job stretching out the larger storylines. It continues to be well written and acted, and all of the actors do a great job with their roles. Fillion and Katic continue to either have or fake good chemistry. Most fans of the show probably know the rumors that the two could not stand each other by the time the series ended, so if any of that animosity had started at this point, it was not apparent when watching the episodes. If you are a fan of the prior seasons then you will probably like this one. On the other hand, if the prior seasons did not do much for you, this is probably not going to change your mind about the show.

So I love Castle, but at the start of the fourth season it seemed like it was losing it's charm. I felt like it was drifting into the realms of an angsty teen drama. Mood swings, repeating themes, lame plot twists... Sometimes the studio uses the same tricks too often (for example, the "let's spice up the suspense by starting this episode from the ending then then flashing back to the start"; I think this season had two of those episodes, which is two too many if you ask me). The bank job episode was another one that may have seemed good on paper, but the story's nothing new, and the characters are stretching their roles a bit beyond belief. I think several episodes had HUGE potential, but fell just a bit short. The Blue Butterfly was a great episode. I absolutely LOVED it; but I don't think they quite nailed it. They were also onto something in the episode where Castle and Beckett were kidnapped, but I think it could have had a bit more of a Memento style suspense rather than remembering everything right away. The "Ghost Hunters" episode was cool, and the zombie episode was PERFECT!! In the end, they won me over. I enjoyed the season, but it didn't quite live up to former Castle glory.

I saw the previous cliff hanger episode on tv and really wanted to see the outcome of the next episode, so I ordered it. Castle is a really wonderful and addictive show! I missed out somehow, on the first 4 seasons likely due to programming conflicts with some other show I watched at the time, but now can't get enough of Castle! The chemistry between Castle and Beckett sizzles and his character is the epitome of what a woman wants in a man. Someone who is careing, attentive, loyal, funny, with a fantastic sense of humor, wit, charisma along with fantastic masculine looks and charm! Beckett also is the poster girl for what most women would like to be. Tall, gorgeous, independent, yet vulnerable inside but still able to 'keep her cool', even though she is torn up with her personal conflicting feelings, emotions, and trust issues with Castle. It is ONE great show and I hope that it goes on for years. I could live with the couple getting married and even having a kid together. That would certainly 'spice up their lives' and put a new twist on the show in the future!

I love the way that Castle wears a bulletproof vest with 'Writer' on it, whereas the rest have 'Police'. It's basically the story of a rich, celebrated writer who's been brought in to help the police, because in series 1 the first case is based on a plot of one of his books. Nathan Fillion is great as Castle, and Stana Katic terrific as the long-suffering actual police officer, who's responsible as his partner. It's worth seeing from series 1, because like most good series, apart from the stand-alone stories, there are also threads that run through the entire four series. In this series there's a new female boss, who insists on being called 'Sir', and if you know what happened at the very end of season 3, then the start of the first episode of the series is very compelling. It's funny, dramatic and has lots of twists and turns. It's not exactly Stindberg, so you do need to come at it in the right frame of mind, i.e. just have a good time with it all.

De loin la meilleure saison des Castle avec un final décoiffant et émouvant à la fois (épisode 23). Ce ne sont pas les enquêtes qui comptent, c'est la relation amoureuse très rigolote, tendue et souvent tendre entre les 2 personnages principaux, ainsi que la quête pour la vérité de la détective Beckett concernant le meurtre de sa mère et qui joue le tout pour le tout, quitte à risquer sa vie et sa relation avec Castle pour arriver à ses fins. On adhère. La musique, "punchy",rythme à merveille tous les épisodes. L'humour est fin: les créateurs de nos séries françaises devraient s'en inspirer tant il est vrai que l'humour français actuel est soit 'méchant' soit vachard ou à l'eau de rose-lavande dans un style global prétentieux, pédagogique, sinistre et pessimiste. Et oui, en France aussi on a envie de beauté et de positif. De rêve, de rires, quoi.

I know this season was great but I think they should have kept Kate's character the happy innocent and modest and sharp speaking character like in the first season. I think this season went to dark and gloomy. If there is a 5th season.I do hope the writers go back to writing fun and cheerful episodes. Real life is hard enough people need to escape to good old teasing and fun. I know murder is not funny but they could make situations funny like in the first season. They should abandon the story line of the killer after her.Also write about her forging on without thinking of her mother's death. Now that she finally said she loves Castle.The writers should write around her and Castle's life at the precinct. Finally get married and have fun together at home.Just like the TV show Hart to Hart. Make her go back to work with Castle and the five friends get back to good old comradeship.We should see more of Kevin Ryan's wife and the Esposito and Lainie get together .Than the 6 friends meet at Castle and Kate's place for porker games and just happens to analyze their recent murder cases.Well I just did not like the ending of this season with the possibility that Katie will be Killed .Do not let that happen find a way to keep the show going towards great comedy and fun.Here is another story line for the writers to pursuit how about Castle and Becket finally run the Bar Castle bought THE HAUNT.The story line could be around the bar and the new books Castle writes about prohibition and his bar.
