This was bought for a friend. I had my own copy years ago. My friend loves it, and was thrilled to receive it.

Surprisingly bad
I was given this book for Christmas, bought from my wishlist. I had a quick flick through the other evening and was surprised at the content. I am a Christian but even I found the content too "Christian-y", it seemed to be a book about evangelism rather than how to look after the house and one's family. It obviously has not been unpdated since the original printing in the 1970's, I read aloud one section about eating cold chicken in a hotel room to my husband and found it funny, but not in a good way. Surely this book is so completely out of date now that it is only worth buying for comically purposes.

Not just for "homemakers"
Unfortunately titled -- this is a good, inspiring book for anyone, not just "homemakers". The author highlights the joy to be found in exploring one's talents in many creative spheres, such as music, drama, sculpting, interior design, clothing, and even creative recreation. Her thesis is that we are all created beings by the most Creative Being, God, and have hidden creative talents that *should* be given some expression. Occasionally, her style is self-important, but I highly recommend the well-written introductory chapter about God's creativity, and the effusive chapter about flower arranging (which has sent me out into my own garden to pluck the daisies for the family to enjoy at dinner). I was, however, disappointed with the chapter on writing: writers have enough people telling them that what they're doing is worthless, without having her add to it by suggesting one's talent is best used in letter-writing than other similar pursuits. If her thesis is correct --that God gives us all creative talents for creation's sake, and we should use them to bring joy -- then surely the drive to write fiction or poetry or whatever is still God given.
