How in the world does the fire starter work?

Firmly pressing the base of a blade to the fire starter rod(ferro rod), quickly strike the blade away from yourself to create a large spark. Now if you gather your tinder material and shave away at the ferro rod until you have a dime to nickel sized pile. All that’s left to do now is keep your tinder close at hand and strike a spark to the magnesium pile while simultaneously grabbing your tinder to hold over the fire the burning pile of magnesium crates. Once your tinder is lit slowly introduce larger pieces feeding the fire slowly.

What length is the hatchet?

The total length is about 10 inches, and the blade length is about 8cm

No! I’m 6’1” the hatchet felt like a throwing hatchet, but did the trick. The handle becomes uncomfortable after a little while, as the cord begins to shift. The machete is fantastic.
