Gebildet 10pcs Plastic Reed Switch Reed Contact Normally Open (N/O) Magnetic Induction Switch (2.5mm×14mm) with 10pcs Small Multi-Use Round Magnets

I gave my wife one of those book nook craft kits for Christmas. When she finished assembling it I wired it up. The capacitive touch switch for the tiny LEDs was very poor quality. Occasionally it would turn on, confirming I had wired it correctly, but it wasn't remotely reliable. The theme of the set was magic house (a Harry Potter / Hogwarts knockoff), so I told her I would fix it with magic. I ordered these. I broke the first two as I tried to get it into position, but the third one worked great. I buried a tiny neodymium magnet inside the bristles of a TINY broom and now when she moves it to a particular corner of the room the lights turn on. The reed in these switches have to be sensitive enough to move from the field from the little ~1/8" magnet through 1/8" of plywood and a little additional gap from the placement inside the broom. Very impressive!

Switch quality: They served their purpose successfully. I fried a couple by supplying too much amperage but was able to arrange a couple in parallel and make it work. The magnet is very sensitive and maybe a little weak. I glued the magnet to a croc jibit for the project I was doing and it was almost too heavy to use the switch.

I am very happy with these switches They work great and operate in either normally open or normally closed modes. There is a great short video of these operations on circuitapps YouTube channel, if you want to get a better understanding of these modes.

Not everything at a low price in high quantity is a good deal. I bought these to use in a project I am 3D printing. I tested one of these switches right out the bag before installing in the model I printed and it was working. However when I installed it in the model it was intermittently working at best. It turns out there are several dead spots where the magnet makes contact that prevents the switch from closing. Most of the time when it did recognized the magnet, there was significant contact resistance as much as 10 ohms. One lead easily broke off one of the switches. I tried a few more with similar performance. I'm requesting a refund. The cost is not much, but I'm tired of paying for cheap products.

Works well with a little over a half inch gap between the magnet and switch. I used it for the sensor on my RV steps. Blue wire was common. White and Black were the two opposite states.
