Country: A Novel

Loved this book

Although the plot is very predictable, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Steel has added a new dimension to her work in the last few years and it is obvious in this one. I loved all of the characters. While I did get a bit put out with the heroine who was so down on herself and so willing to listen to her daughters' criticism, I knew how she felt. Starting a new life is never easy and the author has nailed it perfectly. Self-doubt it rampant in the life of both the heroine and the hero. The redeeming virtue is that the hero is a man of character and integrity whom Steel paints with a broad brush. He epitomizes what we see in many of the Country singers of today. I just loved his warm personality. My only criticism of the work is that when it reached the climax it was too quickly done. Characters made an about-face making resolution sweet. Like I say, I really enjoyed this work.

A fan of Danielle Steel from the very beginning of her first book. I find that as time goes by, the stories are still intense, romance and suspense continues to evolve as you continue from chapter to chapter. What I did find is that the proof-reader and editor are missing out, at times on grammatical errors which for me is frustrating. It changes the sentence structure when you are reading it, causing you to stop! and re-read the sentence again to make sense of it, this can make you lose focus for a minute. Aside from that, the book captures your interest in the beginning and for me, I read it one day as I could not put it down.

I have been reading her books since the first one came out. I have loved all of them!!! I just finished Country and also A Mother's Love. Both were great!!!

I chose this book for two reasons. I love Danielle Steel and her stories. I am a country girl and like light reading before bed.

This was a good summer day read, but I preferred "The Prodigal Son" as opposed to this rather predictable plot. It does deal with issues many women face when settling for less in a marriage, because of children, financial security, fear of re-entering the workplace. Several couples face this problem on different levels, but the story revolves around Stephanie when her husband suddenly dies. Life was "empty within the marriage" except for her now grown children, but life as a widow poses other questions of "being alone." She meets a country western star quite by accident who is not the typical celebrity type. She has to re-examine dating and marriage again with this attraction. Can she trust again? Can she survive in Nashville? The ending seemed a bit rushed or unfinished, as once she commits to the new relationship, much development could have been a few more chapters of exploring the new "life." If one has had an unhappy marriage or even been questioning one's own identity, I don't think one would just jump into this new love.

Book was in the condition advertised. Good read.

This is your typical Danielle Steel romance book. Formulaic and somewhat repetitive, the first hundred pages move slowly but than the story picks up. In an unhappy marriage, Stephanie's husband dies unexpectedly. Trying to put herself together and rediscover who see is, she by chance meets a country western superstar. Filled with all the ups and downs and angst that encompasses a Danielle Steel novel this is their story on finding each other. As a guy, this novel has more female appeal than male.But I like Ms Steel. She is a good storyteller and her books are entertaining and a nice respite from reading more complicated works. The Prodigal Son and Power Play were better, but this is a most enjoyable read.
