Good idea for a book series but not visually appealing.
I thought this would be a book that a third-grader would read. It isn't very appealing as the illustrations are not great and the writing is too small. My granddaughter took a look at it and won't even let me read it to her. And, honestly, I didn't want to read it.

Great book to read to students
This book offers a nice overview of Ella Fitzgerald’s life and how she attained success. I appreciated how it briefly went into some poor choices Ella made but didn’t dwell on them. It talked about her struggles to become famous so they understand it didn’t happen overnight. It really held my students’ interest. I used it in April since that’s Jazz Month. I highly recommend!

Ella fills our house and you g voices sing along
I love Ella and now my kids do tooThe story gently and honestly tells a brief history of this jazz legend. Now if only my books on blues and jazz would include Ella and more women

Music Teacher approved!
I'm an elementary music teacher who uses the Share the Music textbook series. There is a great listening clip of Ella Fitzgerald singing a Tisket a Tasket in the Valentine's Day section of the first grade book. For years I have struggled to find something online for my students to look at to learn more about Ella Fitzgerald than the 2 sentences in the student books. This book is just what I needed! It is written at their level and ties into what the students have been doing in other classes to celebrate black history month. Music teacher approved!

There are a few odd passages that focus on Ella's lack of good looks, which is an odd message to send regarding a woman who was so immensely talented. Still, the book introduced my daughters to Ella Fitzgerald, which I appreciate.

Excellent read for upper elementary children
I read this to my 4th graders and began by playing the song "A Tisket, A Tasket" prior to reading the book...when we got to the lyrics in the book it was great to see how the students connected the book and the music. It helped them realize that this was a "real story". It is an excellent overview of Ella's life.

Older Elementary Recommended
Accurate and detailed biography of one of my favorite jazz singers. Definitely for older elementary since it includes some of the more rough parts of Ella's childhood experiences.

Inspired Story
This is a well written account of Ella Fitzgerald's determination to be a great singer and dancer against all odds. The story is written well for children, and can be an inspiration for those who have goals that they would like to achieve.

Precioso!
Es un precioso libro con una calidad impecable (aunque preferiría que las tapas fueran un poco más gruesas). Es perfecto para personas que están aprendiendo inglés, ya que es un libro pensado para niños. Muy buena compra!
