Great idea, poor execution
I have gone through two of these connectors. The first one lasted for a few weeks, then the connector started becoming very sensitive, and the music began to have a "skipping" effect. The second connector I ordered was dead on arrival. I am currently in the process of returning this item, and I will give a different brand a shot. I should note that I am using a 30gb iPod with video, and that I have a connector for my car stereo which never has any issues, so I don't think that my problems are the result of my ipod.

Simple solution for connecting an iPod to a stereo
What do you do once you have all the music loaded on to your iPod and you want to play it on your stereo? This cable is the answer. Hook it up to the connectors at the bottom of the iPod and to a RCA jack at the back of your stereo and you are good to go.The design of the cable includes a retractable cord, which I do not find that useful in my application (I leave it hooked up to the amplifier and connect the iPod when I want to use it). It may be helpful if you travel with the cable. The cable gauge itself is small. This is no "Monster Cable", but I did not notice any degradation in sound quality as a result. I do notice that sound quality is improved by hooking an iPod up through its bottom connector (as opposed to the headphone output). The way this cable is set up you do not have to adjust the volume on the iPod, the sound level is constant and you control volume on your stereo.Bottom Line: 4 stars for functionality, design, and sound quality. Knock downs for low gauge wire, inexpensive and potentially breakable self-winding mechanism.

Why pay More?
Why pay more for an item like RCA cables from Belkin or Monster? This is not rocket science- its a simple cable. Its bordering on an insult to pay Belkin and Monster's high prices. Works great everytime and its retractable. No more wrestling with a rat's nest in my bag.

KINDA FRAGILE
Was using this cable for a few days. The retractable lock snagged the thin wires, and wound up ripping the RCA head off.Sounds great in the stereo, just be careful when extending the cable.
