Q: Would i receive the newest iteration of this radio? newest has a 9k/10k switch below antenna int/ext switch, and also other improvementa internally.

The one I received did have the switch. And by the way, this is the best radio I have ever owned. The reception is fantastic. I can receive stations as far as at least 100 miles away without even having to extend the antenna.

Q: what is a good external am antenna to use with radio

The standard loop antenna that is included with many radios would be good enough if you have a good twisted pair feed line. You should find an area where the noise level is low and run your Cat 3 feed line from the antenna in that low noise area to your radio. I do not know if the Terk radio loop antenna would be better or not. I am tempted to buy one and find out. Good luck in your search for a good antenna.

The adapter draws a very small current from a 120 volt outlet when the radio is turned off. This is an inherent characteristic of this type of AC adapter. For most users, the amount of electric power used is negligible but the adapter can be unplugged when not in use if the off-mode power use is unacceptable.

Q: Does this radio work on electricity as well as battery?

Yes it comes with an ac adapter as well.
