Q: Did anyone used it for standard poodle?

I have a red standard poodle; her hair is moderately curly but soft. She is fine with the Chris Christensen brushes. The wood pin brush is a good body brush, more like a massage. The 16 mm metal pin T brush (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ES7WI6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage) is by far the best for all of her: ears, tail, body. She tolerates these brushes well, though she fought any other kind of brush when she was a puppy. If you only spring for one, get the T brush.

Q: Anyone know if the wood pin brush works better or this one for stubbornly tight mats? My dog is a Havanese.

I use it in combination with CC'S two butter combs (large for body & small for head & paws) on my Havanese (both after removing mats and for regular brushing to prevent new ones. Use thinning scissors to cut through the mat first, then hold the fur pinched between fingers close to skin while gently combing the matt a little at a time, then brush. My 15lb Havanese never minds being brushed, in fact it appears to feel good on his skin; it gets rid of his "itches". My parents ' Maltese likes it too. I have both sizes, great product.

Q: The wire variety are easy to clean and clear with a comb. Will that work with this brush, or is there a best way to clear?

The comb will not work as it may damage the wood pins. I just use my hand to clean. You could also washows in sink.

Q: This came up in a search for a wood bristle brush for myself, a human. What makes this a brush for non-humans?

Honestly, I don't know. The wood bristles are very gentle. I don't see why it wouldn't make a good brush for humans!
