HEAD SPLIT AFTER LESS THAN 2 MONTHS USE
This was actually a really great sledgehammer, until it wasn’t. We heat with wood, so having a reliable sledgehammer for splitting logs is essential. The Fiskars PRO is not inexpensive. I ordered it in mid December 2021. I’ve used it several times a week and found it to be very well balanced and heavy enough to get the job done without contributing to excessive fatigue. The handle is well-shaped and smooth (no splinters!) but easy to grip with or without gloves. All around, it was an absolute delight to use, for about eight weeks. But this morning, the head split cleanly in two, rendering it useless. The picture says it all. This could be caused by a casting flaw, but because of the way the head has been engineered to attach to the shaft by a single hardened steel bolt at the thinnest part of the casting, I’d bet my money that this failure is due to design flaw. The impact shock force transferred between the head and retaining bolt in this design is pretty substantial, and it’s focused at one of the weakest points of the casting. I’ve never had another sledgehammer head split like this. The return window for my purchase closed at the end of January, and Amazon won’t handle this sort of warranty exchange return the way my local hardware store will, which means that I now have to file a claim with Fiskars and wait for that to be processed. However, because it’s smack dab in the middle of heating season (February) and I have to be able to split wood several days a week, I can’t wait. I have to go to our local hardware store and buy another sledgehammer to use now, which means that I’m out of pocket. I’ll update this review once the warranty process has played out with Fiskars.UPDATE: I submitted a photo and warranty claim on the Fiskars website. They got back to me within 4 hours and, because the sledgehammer is out of stock, offered to mail me a full refund, which they stated I should have within 30 days. Prompt and responsive customer support wins me over every time.

I never knew how much I needed this.
This has become my "emotional support" hammer. I love this thing so much.It feels a little heavy for the 16lbs it is rated at. This means that either I was harder as a little kid swinging a 20# on concrete or sitting on a couch for years may have had draw backs.I'm going to guess they updated gravity since I was a kid and I just missed the patch notes. That said: Fiskars has become incredible. The company that made that affordable aluminum scissors your mom bought when you were a kid now makes the best tools around. I have killed over 100 shovels, their all steel if just fine.I love my Estwings but.. They are now old tech.I'm going to have more Fiskars in the future. It looks like trhey will be top of the pile until I can get a Douglas. That will just be framing. This hammer will rule all. I put my old hammer in the back of the garage, I'll miss Mjölnir, but this hammer is simply better until I break it.. you better believe I will update this review as soon as I break the hammer.

Pure. Destruction.
It's a brute to swing, but man the damage it does to 9" thick concrete. 2 solid shots and I had a crack clear across the piece, roughly 2' crack. It's a behemoth. 3.5" wide flat face and 8" long head. This was created by the devil himself to wreak havoc upon that which was constructed long ago. For some of you smaller guys, it maybe recommended you stick to the ten pound. Might not get as much kinetic energy, but you can swing it faster and easier. If exercise was a secondary goal to destruction, this is where the party's at, and Fiskars is handing out the invitations.

Really good hammer
Got this off Amazon Warehouse because it was scratched?!?! Plenty more scratches have shown up, this thing is great. I'm a fan of Fiskars, they usually make good stuff and since most of my sledge hammers are old school and nearly 40 years old or older this new design is way more efficient than the old stuff. Good, heavy head about pops open white oak just letting it fall with little effort put into an actual swing. I also use it to drive rebar into footings or slabs before a concrete pour. Good purchase.
