Mantles are very fragile after initial lighting.
Removing the remains of the old mantel off the gas tube was the most difficult step. After removal of old remains open the mouth of the new mantle, position the open end around the gas tube groove and tie the mantle strings tight. Use a double knot. Trim the string ends short. Done, light the mantles and let them burn until they turn white and shut the gas supply off. Lantern ready for use.

Finally, Coleman is starting to make these mantles in the USA again. I, and many others, stopped buying them because they were junk; often getting a hole in them just by pre-burning them for use. In fact, the last 4 pack I bought a few years ago didn’t yield 1 good useable mantle out of the package. Very frustrating and, thankfully, I still had a few spare, non Coleman brand mantles that saved the night. Now, years later, I thought I would give them a try once again because they were inexpensive and good, if nothing else, for testing a lantern after a repair. To my total surprise, these mantles actually produce a very bright light and seem sturdier than in my previous experience with them. So far I have not had any issues with these.
