NBA 2K13, 4.5 Stars
After playing this for the past few months, I must say that I enjoy the latest installment of the 2K series. My favorite mode is Career mode, formerly called My Player mode. They still have my player but its not a mode, it is actually your player, which you can edit or buy things for it. Skills points are now called VC points and I can understand the hate for them. The points they give you are peanuts compared to 2K12. Besides reaching milestones the only other way to get plenty of VC points are to buy them, which is ridiculous. I cant believe you have to buy accessories like clothes and other things with the VC points. Seriously, there is no reason we should have to buy headbands, hats, sleeves, arm pads, shirts, or tank tops. These things were free on 2K12, also on career mode they added Social Media, which is actually Twitter but its not called that. It is the same thing though, you get to choose an @ name, and you basically receive feedback from players, fans and analysis. Everyone critiques your game. Its a nice addition to the game. Create A Legend is exactly like Career Mode, the only difference is you can pick anyone from the current rosters or pick anyone from the classic teams that are featured on the game. Once again you have to earn VC points to upgrade your attributes. As far as My Team goes, you have to pick the players they offer. Don't expect any All-Stars to be offered though, they are basically bench players and little known players so you have to work your way up. If you want the bigger players you have to buy get them with VC points, see a trend here? Everything is mostly about VC points. I suggest playing some exhibition games in My team mode to build up your points. Besides that the Playoffs, Season, and Association modes are pretty much the same as 2K12 so I have no issues there, I still enjoy these modes. Game play is smooth and I had no glitches at all so far, not to mention that the graphics are great. The controls are a little complicated, well as far as combination moves go. You have to press all these buttons just to pull off a great move. Once you get the controls down pack, everything should be good. Now about the soundtrack, it was a bad idea to put played out songs like "Run This Town", On to The Next One", and even Jays 2003 Pump It Up freestyle. I appreciate the classics, but none of the songs besides "Mercy" even came out within the last year. Most of the came out in 2008/2009. Other mostly came out in the 90s and early 2000s like Mobb Deep (95), U2 (2001), Nas (1994), Daft Punk (97), etc.. the thing that was so special about previous 2K games was that the soundtracks had mainstream and underground songs that people weren't that familiar with so we got to discover new music. Newer songs would of made the game feel even more fresh. Oh yeah the editing of the songs were horrible, why not just put the official edited version of the songs instead of blanking out the curse words? Missteps aside, 2K13 is a very good addition to the series but please get rid of those VC points and bring the skills points back next time around. 4.5 Stars

Most fun game in 2K that I played
My 2K life was back in 2009; EA was making crappy NBA games in that time, so I switched to 2K series. One thing that I hate 2K is the cross over move; I think it's very complicated and I am not getting used to it all the time. So here is the savior, the new 2K13 allows you to do cross over or ball dribbling by using the R analog. This is the old way from EA, and something that I hope 2K can change for years. It's finally here after several years of waiting. I have a lot of fun with this new game/move, and I love the game tip, which shows up during the time that you need in the game. Anyway, let me just list the Pros and Cons below to make this review simpler - Pros: * Better graphic. All players' muscles look smoother and real in the game. Not like some big square boxes in front of you. * Ball moves improve. I feel all the players moving like in the real game. Previous 2Ks didn't do a good job on that. * It's fun. The game can just keep going, and it doesn't have any cheer leader dancing to slow you down when starting each quarter. Cons: * Ball pass. The AI can steal your pass easily. This is something drive me nuts because I swear that some of the steals will NOT happen in real NBA. * Turnovers. I feel that the CPU forces you to make some stupid turnovers in the game. For instance, Nash's dribbling hits Jordan Hill's butt, and the ball goes out of bound. This is pathetic!!! I think this won't happen in real life, else J. Hill will be benched forever. * Rosters update. I don't want to complain much for this coz I know that season hasn't started yet. However, if you put DH12 in LA Lakers, then why not updating all your rosters (in the DH12 trade) in the game? Anyway, I know I complain too much..lol. Overall: This is a great game so far. I haven't started the 'My Career' mode, so let's not judging on that. If you like how the new NBA rosters in the coming season, then you should get this game right away (like me). Otherwise, you can wait the price drops to $40+ (Amazon always does this trick to me :( ).

So much fun
If you're looking for a basketball game, you really don't have many options. Luckily the 2k franchise has been doing NBA sim genre right for many years. There's not many games that you know will be solid from year to year, but this game always delivers. There's enough changes from last year to warrant the upgrade. They switched the mechanics of the dribbling to the right stick - it takes some getting used to to really do the moves you want to do, but it gives so much control over the ball handling. Plus you can still shoot from the right stick if you use a modifier button, which makes it seamless to transistion from dribble move to shooting/layup/etc. It does get a little confusing - there's many times I thought I was driving to dunk when i'd just end up doing a spin move wide open in the paint. But when you get it right, it feels that much more gratifying. The inclusion of Jay-Z is pretty cool, in that he seemed to pick good songs to be included in the soundtrack. Its funny that most of these songs are censored way beyond even a radio edit - full sentences are just omitted like they never existed. The signature skill is a fun inclusion. I remember how madden tried to do it once a few years ago and it was a mess, but this game does a good job of balancing their effects against their upgrades, etc. You can really start to customize players with the signature skills, which I liked. One thing that i'm not happy about is how they scaled the point allocations for "my career" mode. You gain less points from goals throughout games and through the season, and even training doesn't yield too many points. But you can get thousands of points for just a few dollars from the online store. it's clearly tailored to steer you towards purchasing points online. And I did. I'm not happy about it but it was worth it to make my player dunk on everybody. It's still far and away the best bball sim i've come across. The price has dropped since the latest round of sports games have came out (baseball, etc) and with the nba playoffs coming up, if you haven't gotten this game yet and you're a bball fan, you might as well get it.

Funner, but faultier than ever
When I first played 2K13 (which was actually the demo), I was excited because I felt the gameplay was improved and I had a great time playing it. But when I got the actually game, which I of course played for hours and hours, I was disappointed by a few things. First of all there is a freezing problem, mostly on MyCareer, but other times too. I never had this freeze up thing happen in the previous installments and it was actually a pretty consistent thing that hasn't been patched yet (at least on PS3). I know this is not just my PS3 because I have friends with the same issue. Another thing I don't like is some of the same issues that have never been addressed yet. The passing is a constant problem as it always has. Sometimes a guy can be 20 feet away from you and the pass will end up in the in the crowd. It's pretty infuriating sometimes. Some things in MyCareer don't even make sense, such as calling for passes when your wide open and getting your team mate grade lowered. You can also get it lowered just by trying to swipe the ball. Another aggravating thing is the strategy of making high % shots is not really applied as much as it should be. For example, I have played people online who chuck up 3s with their best 3 point shooter even with defensive settings on tight and with a hand in their face and they still can easily make them. That really should be adjusted because it is annoying to lose to people who just shoot 3s every possession. A few other things I wasn't so crazy about was the soundtrack kind of sucks in my opinion, mostly Jay-Z songs, no Drake, I'm sure since he's been dissing Rihanna. No retro soundtracks, just some of the crap you hear on the radio everyday and a few others. "Mercy" is edited and censored almost beyond recognition. Another thing is the graphics didn't really improve much as far as the players' details go. Uniforms, lighting, contrast, however was definitely improved. Now that I've laid out the things I was disappointed about, let me talk about what makes the game great. Well, MyCareer has been evolved into a much better feature. It now allows you to gain virtual currency not only as skill points for your player, but many other things as well, including buying clothes for your guy. The great thing about virtual currency is that instead of only getting it while in MyCareer, you can get it doing pretty much anything and the more you play, the more you get. There are now special individual "signature skills" that can be applied to your player, just as real NBA players have in the game. I was really glad 2k did this and got rid of the special skills you have to use massive SP to improve on. One feature I really liked was the training camp that teaches you all the basics. It really comes in handy for learning how to do new moves and reinforce old ones. The moves are really very handy to get down, so you can get by your defenders, create shots, and make plays. The moves and the control you have is definitely one thing that has improved in 2k13. Another feature that I really like is NBA Blacktop which online you can use your MyPlayer to play 3 on 3 pick up games as if you were to go down the street and play a pickup game yourself. You can do a Team match 5 on 5 as well (with real players), but I like the simplicity of the 3 on 3 match up to 21. It is reminiscent of NBA Street. It's a blast because you can play the way you would in real life and actually team up with people as they would play. Overall, I love my 2K13, I just have to take a star away because it is not a slam dunk so to speak. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it is simply not as good as it can be. 2K13 definitely has room for improvement. But this is a step forward for the most part. The technical issues NEED to be solved, it is just not fair to pay almost $70 for a game that is not functioning properly.

leave it at the menu screen and listen to some good tunes
i tried several times to make the switch to the 2K series..just cannot do it. in a 2013 sports game, the graphics are a joke - way behind the other major sports video games. gameplay is good when you first pick up the controller, then you realize quickly how delayed every button push is...for days I thought it was a bad controller - I tried swapping batteries, but then realized I didn't have any problems on other games..you try to crossover or upfake and then take it to the hole when you defender bites, and suddenly there is an invisible force slowing you down to let the AI or opponent catch up with you and bang you all the way out of bounds. AI is ok in the halfcourt but on fast breaks is awful, mishandled passes happen frequently (and i'm not talking about full court passing) you see happen way too successfully. You can see the AI making good cuts in the halfcourt but when attempting a pass it will redirect your pass to a teammate 35 ft from the basket? I shouldn't have to press the teammates 'pass icon' each time, using the joystick pointing to where my teammate is should suffice. within 5 min of playing i can see major problems that should've been addressed- i really do not believe the people behind this game play or know much about basketball - it's pathetic. oh and online play?? AWFUL - have to constantly deal with morons pausing the game or no reason just to annoy you - the game lets people pause constantly for a 3 min time period - how about limit the number of pauses to 2 PER GAME! how hard is this to figure out?? I'd say I can play a full game with an opponent 1 out of every 12 times...PS - kevin durant doesn't miss open layups, knock it off..

Amazing game!!
This is by far the best NBA 2K game. I love it. Even if you don't know the sport, this game will be fun for you and your friends. First, there is the normal quick game mode. Not only is it fun to play with a friend, but it is fun to play online. Not only can you play as every NBA team, but also play as legendary teams. There is a wide variety of teams to play as, for example, the MJ era Bulls, Hakeem Olajuwan's rockets, James Worthy's Lakers, allen Iverson's Sixers, Shaq's Lakers and Magic, as well as many other teams. The MyCareer mode is awesome. Once you set up all of the logistics, you play in the rookie showcase, get three interviews, and get drafted. (and the other players getting drafted aren't made-up characters with names like John Smith, they are real rookies like anthony Davis and Damien Lillard, just to name a few.) once you get drafted, all the fun starts. You play games an at any point you can check your Hall of Fame Progress, until you retire. All in all, i absolutely love this game. The only bad thing is that as the new season draws nearer, the rosters become more out of date. However, since it is becoming outdated, the price will only drop.

Another Year Another A+
The NBA 2k13 Series is the best sports series out there. Possibly the best series out there period! It makes me year after year get disappointed with Madden because 2k is so good and Madden is such Trash. The trash of trash out there actually. NBA 2k on the otherhand, just amazing. True to player attributes, great control. If you want to turn your back to the basket you can. If you want to pump fake as you fade to the right or left you can. Each year there is a new feature. Only gripe is the PS3 server.. Online play could be more fluid... Also, Sir Charles, get back on the philly roster will u??!!

NBA Live + NBA 2K= NBA 2K13(FTW!!!)
I preordered this game on August 21st last month. And it's a good thing I did because when I got it in the mail earlier this afternoon, I knew it was gonna live up to the hype. As you can see from the title of this review, this game is what happens when NBA Live combines with NBA 2K. The control stick is something that NBA Live had since Live 2003 and NBA 2K13 made it more formidable in the fact that not only can you still shoot by flicking the stick while holding L2, but now you can perform dribble moves on the same right stick which includes crossovers, hesitation dribbles, spins, half spins, and a whole array of moves you couldn't execute in any 2K basketball game before. Since I preorded the game,I also got and redeemed the code for the NBA All Star Weekend which I've yet to. The one thing that sealed the deal was that besides the fact that the 1992 Dream Team is in a basketball game for the 1st time since TEAM USA BASKETBALL on the Sega Genesis, whenever you create a MyPlayer or your super NBA player, you now can create his own jump shot! This feature first appeared in last year's game, NBA 2K12, and has carried over into this year's game. If you've played the NBA Live Series from 2003 to 2010, you'll instantly get a feel for the all new Control Stick.(Trust me, I know!!!) I'm tellin' you, this is shaping up to be 2K's biggest release since NBA 2K11!!!!
