Lightning Bug with Cable #236 Compatible with Nikon DC2 Plug

I love this gadget. I got interesting shots the first time out. It was a blast to use and it is pretty easy to understand, once you have read through the instructions. The cord broke during my first use, and I honestly do not know if it was a bad cord or I damaged it somehow. But I replaced it and cant wait for a storm to use it again. I used the recommended f-stop and shutter speeds. That worked ok, but I ended up needed a wider aperture as I was shooting at night. This thing caught every bolt ( plus a few false alarms ) even when it happened to fast for me to even see. I should say I was shooting handheld, which is obviously not recommended for this kind of thing...but it was a spur of the moment decision to go out in the storm. Even at that, I got some cool shots. This is the best priced lightning trigger device you are going to find, especially for the quality. I should also mention at one point it started firing non-stop every time I turned it on. I removed the battery (9v, not included) and replaced it, which solved the problem. I had contacted th manufacturer before I solved the problem, and they suggested it might be a bad sensor and I should replace it. Im glad I didnt. SO if this happens to you, try a new battery and check the cord. Despite that, it is well worth the cost. It is a blast to get these shots, and the lightning bug did everything it promised.

Why 4 stars? The supplied cable was inop. Other than that this thing works very well. Spoke with Todd at MK Controls and he was very helpful. I also spoked to the seller, Michelle. She is just awesome...shipped a replacement cable that arrived the next day.Downloaded some images yesterday of some monsoon action. This trigger caught multiple images of the same bolt(s) of lightning. It's very fast. I'd estimate the capture rate around 80-90%. I've been using an older trigger since 2005. With that, I'd get around 20% successful images. I should have gotten this lightning bug long ago. Very happy with it.

I bought my Lightning Bug in May but didn't get a chance to use it until July. After one use, the thing wouldn't turn on. I contacted MKControls (manufacturer) via email and they had me ship it to them. They discovered the 9v connection had come out. They replaced it and sent it back to me along with a $10 check to cover what I paid to ship it to them. They were courteous and informative throughout the entire process. If I decide to buy another camera and need another lightning trigger, no doubt I'll purchase another from them.

I have had many great shots when using this trigger. With any new camera setup you need to take the time to test and understand how it works, read the directions and test. I prefer to use a good ND filter to extend my exposure time and bump the sensitivity up so I always get a trigger. The company was more than willing to answer questions and provide support if needed.

I purchased this thing about 2 years ago to shoot some lightening shots. To date, it has yet to get the first shot. In the length of time that I have owned it, I have saw it sense lightening two times and both times, it failed to capture anything more than a blank sky. I have adjusted it and readjusted it and had it every setting available and changed the batteries in it to known good batteries during storms where lightening was plentiful and it just sits there and does nothing. I am about to put this thing in the box with other useless things that I have spent more than $150.00 for.

Unable to get unit to work. Followed all troubleshooting steps.UPDATE: Customer service with this company is pretty amazing. I was on vacation when I discovered the bug didn't work, they offered to ship me a new one to my vacation rental! I declined as I was headed home in a couple days. Anyway upon my return I mailed out my bug and they repaired and shipped back. I havent checked it but anticipate it working. Customer service to this level is unheard of nowadays.

Not easy to easy to many steps to get in lightning mode. Not happy with purchase.

I had not been able to test the lighting bug due to lack of lightnings. I recently had a close-by storm and was extremely satisfied with the results of my first use of the the bug!! I'm hoping to get more lightning storms!!! The camera is triggered by the lightning. One has to experiment with the bug's sensitivity. Sometimes I just got the illumination in the clouds. It is very easy to figure it out. I was amazed with some of the results.
