Q: how much soil in quarts

It's roughly 42 wet quarts in a 40 lb bag.. I measured this several times. It takes 21 wet quarts to fill a vivosun 5 gallon fabric grow bag so a 40 lb bag is enough for two 5 gallon pots

Q: I saw a video that said always used sterilized soil.....if so, how does Ocean forest stack up?

If you are looking for something that is "Sterilized" You should make sure it is listed in the product description and title.Ocean Forest is a very clean and organic soil that works great.

It will probably fill 5-6 2 gallon buckets. 1-1/2 cubic feet comes out to about 11.5 gallons.

Q: How can Amazon.com expect to sell this at $24.37 when I can get it locally for $11.95-19.99?

I just called my local small garden center and they carry the 1.5cu ft for 19.99+tx. I'm sure the "free" shipping is factored into the online price. 40 pounds is pretty heavy to be mailing out for "free". As for bugs, if it's a sealed bag then there shouldn't be a problem. Last year I purchased a bag of Nature's Care that had some air holes in it by design. It was stored outside at HD. My first grow had gnats, but months later the following grows did not. YMMV.
