What is the purpose of the clear plastic with the 2 taped plastic flaps? Is this only meant for 2 queens or 4, Won't they fight through excluder?

The clear plastic with taped plastic flaps, that is the inner cover. It goes just below the feeder, and the flaps cover the queen cell that would be introduced in the upper/super box. There is also the feeder, then two vertical dividers, and an excluder. You can raise the queens in several ways... You could close all but 1 entrance... remove the dividers and the queen excluder. It now becomes a single hive with 16 mini frames. Should be decent for overwintering this way. I'm planning to give it a try. You could run two queens either by opening 1 top on the back and 1 bottom on the front and removing the vertical dividers.. This gives you 2 hives with 8 frames in a row separated by the excluder. Alternatively, you could leave the dividers in and raise 2 or 4 queens. If doing 2 queens, the upper box would be treated as a mini-honey super and you'd probably want to keep the 2 queens below the excluder. Interesting little mating nuc. I just wish the feeder would fit better on the bottom box.. I don't really need a honey super on my mating nucs. *shrugs*

My Hive came with a clear lexan piece of plastic between the top box and feeder - What is it for? It isn't the excluder that's between 1st & 2nd box.

Do you sell foundation sized for the smaller frames? Or do you just let them build out the comb without wax foundation?

There are a few things you can do: 1. Cut up a deep, medium or shallow plastic foundation to make your own size. 2. Buy a few pieces of wax foundation and cut to fit. 3. Use a popsicle stick trimmed to fit. 4. Search Mannlake or any other bee suppliers for mini nuc foundation - I think they need to be trimmed to fit. 5. Use an old foundationless frame with drawn wax it out and cut it out to make it fit the mini frame. Make sure to heavy wax any plastic foundation you use to coax them into building it out. After they build out the inner frames move them out 1 frame at a time to force them to build the next one. I hope that helps
