Can i connect this directly to my router via ethernet cable and have it broadcast wi-fi without connecting to the router through a wi-fi connection?

Yes, if you follow the set-up instructions. As an example, I have a separate room where the WiFi is too far away from the main router. I have now installed a Cat 6 ethernet cable from the master router to this room. As I want some equipment in this room to use WiFi, this Netgear provides me a WiFi signal, although it has a different router name and its own unique password which came with the addition router. Installation was quite straight forward as long as you follow the instructions tgat came with it. Hope that helps

Router not supported, thats what im getting connected to my BT router, any advice?

In case you are using your WAX204 in cascade to the modem-router provided by your ISP, you would need to configure your ISP's modem-router in modem-only mode (bridge) to avoid double NAT problems.
