How do these new strings compare to exp, or is it just marketing same strings with new package? people report issues with breaking strings, humm???

Thanks for the question. I worked on the development and launch of the new X-Series at D'Addario. This is a new coating material that is thinner and more durable than EXP, giving the strings an extended lifespan without affecting the natural tone or feel of the strings. We're now also able to coat all steel strings in the set, including plain steel strings. In regards to string breakage - we're using our NY Steel wire which is a stronger steel alloy, along with our Fusion Twist process which reinforces the twist making XT strings a much stronger and more durable string. Breakage can occur for many reasons that are unrelated to the string; without seeing the issue in the context of the guitars set-up, tuning, among other variables it's difficult to say why a string broke. I can tell you that I've been playing these strings for the last three years as they've been developed and I haven't broken a single string.

are these strings balls or ball less ?

If they are for acoustic guitar they have "balls."

How do you know what size string to get??

Look up make and model of your guitar on the net, or call a local music shop that sells your guitar. They, in most cases, list or know what string size came on your guitar originally. Buy that gauge. The size of each string is listed on the string pack. If you do change string gauge, a local luther may have to widen out the string slots or change the nut to accomodate the new size.
