Is wrap BPA free

Contrary to what the first reply says, this Saran Wrap has not been not made from polyvinylidene chloride since 2004. It is now made from Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE), same as the other major brand. You can still get the superior polyvinylidene chloride version from two Japanese companies, Asaha Kasei, who partnered with Dow Chemical Company in the early 1950s and uses the Saran name, and Kureha, whose product is called New Krewrap. They are available on Amazon and eBay, although the are 11.8 inch wide rolls from a Asaha Kasei are not currently available on Amazon, only from eBay, although they are available in the Kureha New Krewrap brand on Amazon.
Seeing as how the EPA does not think that the 500 tons of vinyl chloride burned after the train wreck in Palastine, Ohio, poses much of a threat to the residents, I think S.C. Johnson & Son should start producing and selling the original superior polyvinylidene chloride Saran Wrap again, as the miniscule amount burned in trash incineration would, by comparison, pose virtually no risk

Is this the old-school thick impervious stuff I used to buy 20 years ago for use in the freezer  or some thin replacement?

This is not the same as the old Saran Wrap made out of polyvinylidene chloride, which they stopped making in 2004 in the United States. That was a much better barrier to odors and oxygen, and also water vapor, and also stuck to containers better. It is now made of low density polyethylene, same as the competitor.
