LaCie Porsche Design 4TB USB-C Mobile Hard Drive, Silver ( STFD4000400 )

Well, here I was, looking for a sharp looking USB hard drive to go with my fancy Dell XPS and my nice new LG phone. What a joy it was to find such an elegant design, with the usb C port, at a decent price.I was a bit apprehensive when I opened the box, as the edges had that sharp-ish sort of look. Like, that glint that isn't broken by a nice chamfer or a slight fillet. It looked liked the freshly machined edge of a block of aluminum. Because it was a freshly machined edge of a block of aluminum.Still, I was impressed with it, and it found a home in my laptop bag. I was a bit apprehensive while reaching into my bag, because of the razor sharp metal edges yearning to rend my tender flesh, but I eventually forgot about it.Until one day, where I reached in, and it sliced the top of my finger clean open. Behold the attached photos. Notice the blood. The blood on my finger. That was caused because I was cut. I was cut by the hard drive. By the razor sharp edge of the hard drive.As a side note, I work as an engineer. We have a common call out on all our drawings, that says "Break sharp edges". Nothing should leave production with a sharp enough edge to draw blood, unless you are making purposefully sharp items. Since hard drives are not cutting tools, they should not have knife edges.Now, LaCie had a decent chance to resolve this, but their customer service is impossible to reach, there is no option on their page for "your hard drive injured me and caused me to bleed on my friend's couch". I tried to contact them via facebook messager, but they didn't respond.So, your move LaCie. What do I want? I want you to make hard drives that are not sharp enough to draw blood. That's all. I like my blood inside my body. It is a special place for blood that keeps me alive.Note: the photos show my finger across several hours. The cut did not actually fully stop bleeding until the next day.

Great design and fast backup with a major flaw. It crashed my brand new MacBook Pro (touchbar) four times backing up with Time Machine. At very end of backup of course. Totally crashed and rebooted the Mac which is very bad for it. I tried different settings each time, and turning anti-virus off, etc. Hours of wasted frustrating time. Finally ready to send back and read another posted review here (thank you!) about the CRAPPY CABLES included with the LaCie. I switched to my Thunderbolt to T-bolt from my Mac's power supply (removable cable on newer MacBooks now) and it worked like a charm.GET IT TOGETHER SEAGATE, DON'T LET CHEAP CHINESE CABLES RUIN A GOOD PRODUCT - Do a recall or at least offer replacements instead of getting returns on entire unit. Even pull the cables out. (The USB worked for me but why trust it?)

Beautiful hard drive design wise. Speedy performance on USB-C. I recommend getting a case for this one, the edges are VERY sharp and if you stick your hand in your bag without looking it can slice your skin open. I already went through that twice for forgetting to put it in it’s case. If you’re wondering what case will House it well, I got the Amazon Basics Pirtable Hard drive case for about $7, it fits very snug with barely any room for the small usb-c cable, but I works.

Looks nice, matches both macbook and HP x360. I'm guessing from the thickness that this unit is two 3.5" 2tb drives (I may be wrong). There's no options to RAID them if they are 2 drives. The unit itself is fairly steady, and pretty fast. Going from USB 3 or USB C, the bottleneck is in writing to the drives. Getting a sustained 80-90mbs throughput. Writing from the drive to internal SSD, throughput is about 240-260 mbs. As always, with portable mechanical drives, I worry about the longevity. 4tb is a lot of data to recover.

I use it to edit on AVID, Adobe Premiere and After Effects. I've been using it for 2 years now with no problems. It's fast, sleek and very reliable. Yes it looks sharp but you literally have to go out of your way to cut yourself on it, lol.

Unlike the usb3 port from my old Porsche design drive, which will get loose overtime and cause connection problem, the c port is very solid by design. The transfer speed is acceptable of well over 90MB/s write speed. For my backup using robocopy to move 250GB files the drive only get warm a little bit and worked quietly.

Excellent storage space

I have a side business as a photographer and am using this device to hold all of my photos from various shoots. Have worked with it on airplanes, at the kitchen table, and everywhere in between. I have experienced no glitches or issues in the few months I have been using it.

Perfect as a backup disk, so if your Mac crashes, you will not lose everything. For the fashionistas out there, it is the same silver colour as the macbook, so you can match it... 8) It is a bit on the heavy side, but nothing too bad.

Attenzione. Venditore poco affidabile. Problema riscontrato: Ho acquisto un articolo elettronico presso questo rivenditore che lo censiva come NUOVO. L’articolo è arrivato a destinazione nei modi e nei tempi indicati sul portale AMAZON. Aprendo il plico ho scoperto che il sigillo di garanzia, che garantisce l'integrità del prodotto, era stato rimosso e il contenitore che racchiudeva il prodotto ordinato si presentava usurato e sporco. Collegando il precitato prodotto al PC constatavo che si trattava di un prodotto già utilizzato, pertanto non nuovo.Inviato una e-mail di RECLAMO al venditore in data 19.09.2018, alle ore 08:51, alla data odierna (25.09.2018) non ho ricevuto alcuna risposta. Il venditore aveva l’obbligo di rispondere entro le ore 48 dalla ricezione della e-mail. Lascio al lettore ogni considerazione sul caso appena narrato.Fate molta attenzione a questo venditore, poco affidabile e poco incline a risolvere le problematiche riscontrate dai propri clienti.
