Prevue Hendryx 62900 Mimic Me Voice-Recording Unit for Birds Green Small

I have bought sooooooo many toys...several mechcanical puppet talking/moving birds...and a mirror that emits a recording when the bird perches on it. BUT this product is BY FAR THE BEST!!! It has 2modes that allow for how frequent you want the recording to play...it's Great to teach phrases to birds who have the ability to learn to talk. Its awesome to keep birds company...what better way for them not to feel alone then to hear their parents voice??? That is why I bought it for my Green Cheek Conure. You set it up on a flat surface away from the birds and reach... NEVER in the cage! It gives you 10seconds to record...which is a lot more than any other of the products I have tried. And the recording "Quality" Excels all the other products I tried which were muffled..or too low. This product records clearly and has a perfect volume...not too loud or too low! Something told me when I saw this product to buy it first...I didn't listen to my intuition as I found the price to be $20-$25 a bit too expensive. Instead I ended up spending "more" on many different products that were inferior. This is an Awesome product and its worth every penny!...You won't be disappointed. (Sigh), if I could go back in time...

I bought this for my Cherry Head Conure who is really good about picking up words and sounds. The unit is made from plastic and not meant to be put inside the cage. It's actually quite loud so it would be best across the room. There are two sections that allow you to record a few words or a message. The unit will repeat that message twelve times and then pause for about fifteen minutes. You can toggle between the two sides to record a different message on each side. The recording seems clear and loud. Pressing the record button softly allows for a clearer repeating message without clicks that your bird could end up mimicking as well. The buttons and switches appear fragile and feel like to me that if they are forced or mishandled they could break. It also appears to work as a bird calmer. Many birds let out loud calls when they can't see you, by recording their favorite word this unit on repeat puts you in charge of the calls. My bird has already picked up the rhythm of one of the phrases I've recorded. Eventually that should turn into the words. I've enjoyed this product so far and wished I knew about it sooner...

This arrived a little over a week ago and already my 21-year old African Grey has learned new phrases and words! We bought this to do two things: first, annoy my parrot the way he annoys us, for a little sweet justified revenge. Second, to teach him new things to say since he recently acquired a new annoying screeching sound he heard from a movie we were watching. We are hoping something different to mimic will distract him from this new and very naughty thing he has learned. It has helped a little, but I imagine that part will take some time. About the Mimic Me: The battery compartment was hard to open. I went through several ordinary screwdrivers before I found one that would work. The batteries that came with mine were dead. Once I had it put together with good batteries it had a recording already on it, I imagine it was whoever tested it. It was Asian music. Kind of cute. When I recorded on it, the sound was crystal clear. Ten seconds is the perfect length for teaching a bird new things. One can fit quite a bit on it. Currently on ours we have the following: "Have fun storming the castle! These aren't the droids you are looking for. Luke, I am your father!" All of that fit in ten seconds. It has crystal clear quality sound. My only complaint is the volume is loud. It would be nice to have a way to control the volume on this recorder, so that is why I gave this 4 stars. So far we've been using this a couple of hours a day and the batteries are still going strong. I will update later when I can give a better estimate of battery length and let you know if this helps us stop him from screeching that one new annoying sound. December 26, 2015 Update: My parrot has forgotten all about that annoying sound he was doing, and is learning new things every week! The battery I put in is still going strong!

This one is okay, but I don't expect it to last long. The sound quality is okay. It's clear enough that it sounds like me talking. I've only used it for one whole day, today. The batteries that came with it, are too long. They don't fit down in all the way, so the cover can't be used. I tried good old American AAA batteries, and they work but are too long as well. The product looks something like cheap dollhouse furniture in a nauseating green color. My bird is a young parrotlet. He seems to listen to the recording, although if I'm sitting here at my desk and it goes off, it startles me out of my sox. I know this will help keep him company while I'm gone, as it does sound like me talking, and I know from experience that this type of device works well for teaching the bird new words. The volume is obnoxiously and intrusively loud. Solution: I put a plastic Folger's coffee can over it to muffle the volume. I won't return the item, but again, it's going to wear out soon.

This is a great product. The recordings are very clear and at the right volume. Since it only turns on periodically, every 15 minutes, the batteries last longer. It also is very easy to turn off and on. I can not give a good wolf whistle, so I had my daughter record it. My parakeets picked this up right away and reproduce it. They are working on the words. Since I have two birds this will take longer and be a little harder because, when there are two parakeets, they tend to bond with each other more than with their owner. However, when they hear the recordings, they start chattering between themselves and you can hear them working on the words. Repetition is important, but sometimes it is hard to find the time to do it. The Mimic Me takes care of that problem. It would be nice it were possible to record additional words using the second side of the recording machine. However since trainers recommend teaching only a few words at a time, this probably is not a big problem.

I had this recorder about 8 years ago. It was great— no problems. My Senegal parrot learned many words, phrases, and whistled songs with the old version. The one I bought recently was a big disappointment. The quality of the recording is very poor. There’s a lot of static-like noise in the playback, which is annoying. My bird doesn’t like the scratchy sounds either, so that doesn’t help me expand his repertoire. I can’t recommend this item.

Easy to use. No volume control you just have to talk softer if you want it not so loud. Does two parakeets I know they wouldn't talk with the Box on but I thought it would be something to entertain them when I am not home. I was trying to put them back in their cage one night and I grab the box and just turned it on for fun and they flew to me holding the Box on my hand. My voice talking to them does nothing but when I turn the box on their happy. But I have no doubt you would get a burr talking if you just have one male.

Best play back recording toy I was able to find so far! The sound is a little grainy, because it picks up any background noise like the air conditioner, so it doesn’t come out very clean, but still great! It plays the recording for a set of 12 times and then repeats that set every 10 or 15 minutes depending on the mode you choose. It comes with batteries.
