No. they are different from the "new hope gray" color.

Is the d-pad ok without the padding? When I was dissassembling the Joycon there was no padding for the direction buttons where the d-pad goes.

I wouldn't recommend it because then the d pad button piece will rub against the board with all the circuitry. To me, that might run it. The rubber pad creates that sort of protection.
