Yes you can. This tool has saved me lots of time. If your short is under the dash area it will be harder to pinpoint cause it is hard to reach in that area.

Yes. It can be used on a single wire, as long as you connected series.

I would have say no because in a car there is 12 DC volts in line for power to find the break..this device is made to take up to 42 DC volts not AC volts like found in a house...Maybe you could put 12 volts DC through your house wiring and use this tool to find the short,,, BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NO FEED BACK TO YOUR MAIN POWER...I would be very carefull.... P.S. also I don't know if this tool would work going through walls....because doing car wiring you have to keep the tool right on the wiring it self...wall might be to thick...
